Sandusky/Penn State scandal

Re: Sandusky/Penn State scandal

Watched the Costas interview. Tough to watch, but I thought the questions asked were pretty good.

His lawyer must have been freaking out at the looooong pause Sandusky had when asked if he was sexually attracted to young boys.

the fact that he repeated the question is a strong indication that he does...

Re: Sandusky/Penn State scandal

McQueary now says he did intervene when he saw Sandusky assaulting a young boy. "I didn't just turn and run. I made sure it stopped."

As for Sandusky's interview with Bob Costas, attorneys have weighed in on it, and not surprisingly think it was a pretty stupid idea by his legal council. Knowing what we now know about Sandusky's lawyer can this story get any weirder? What's next, Sandusky's wife divorces him and marries one of his now adult victims?

First: What is his lawyer doing allowing him to answer these questions. Just horrible and did not help his cause at all. The majority of the people will think he is guilty now, than before. And the long pause to answer that question, and repeating it...just maybe one of the more disturbing, creepy responses ever.

Second: As far as the trial goes, Id be trying to plead this out, seeing that if he is convicted he faces life in prison. Not sure what he can plead down on though. At this point he has to take chances that witness/victims crack on the stand. Also a really smart choice would be to go for a bench trial.

Re: Sandusky/Penn State scandal

His lawyer should be fired. He was supposed to do the interview with Costas and 15 minutes before they were going to start, the lawyer offered up Sandusky instead.

These kids (adults now) better be well-prepped by the DA because the defense is going to try to find the slightest inconsistency. The lawyer is going to tear them to shreds on the stand and hope they crack.

I also love how the lawyer for Sandusky thinks it is this incredible feat that they (allegedly) found the boy who was (allegedly) raped in the shower and the DA didn't. Well, duh! Your client knows his name and probably where he lives whereas the DA has very little to go on.

He said he isn't a pedophile, then described his own behavior in a manner that is awfully consistent with that of a pedophile. Either its cognitive dissonance or he doesn't know what a pedophile is.

Normally Dan Patrick keeps his composure and the mood of his show is usually light. This morning talking about Sandusky and what he (allegedly) did to those kids he was visibly angry and almost to the point of tears. It was very weird to watch. I grew up wanting to be a sports journalist because of all the cool things they get to do and who they get to meet...this is the first time I've been glad I don't have to cover this crap.

Re: Sandusky/Penn State scandal

then Sandusky's lawyer reportedly impregnated a teenage girl about 10 years ago
To be fair, while creepy this wasn't illegal (she was above the age of consent) and it doesn't even appear all that super, duper creepy -- they got married, had another kid, etc. Now, what a 17-year old girl sees in a 48-year old guy is an interesting question, but hey... it gives us all just that little bit of hope. ;)

Maybe that's the strategy -- claim there's no such thing as an unbiased jury...

It has to be one of the more bizarre counsel decisions. All I can think of is Sandusky's completely oblivious and he demanded to go on.

But why is it called beaver stadium?

That might actually be true. Where exactly are they going to find an untainted jury for this thing, Tibet?

I can only wonder what a $eventeen-year-old girl who was probably $poiled rotten by her parent$ would $ee in a 48-year-old lawyer. $ure boggle$ the mind.

Maybe it's just a rural PA thing. I knew a woman whose 17-year old sister married the 40-something cop who was her security when she testified in a criminal case. She was from a small town outside of Pittsburgh.

It is probably important to remember that area is basically Alabama with snow.

We referred to it as Pennsyltuky.

One of the most frequent questions has been: Did the investigation need to take that long?

The grand jury presentment alleges that Sandusky victimized eight boys as young as 7 years old, from as far back as 1994.

But 15 months had gone by before officials added enough manpower to find that out.

There were earlier chances to bring him to the attention of law enforcement. Clues seem to have been ignored in 1995 and 1999; an alleged victim came forward in 1998; and adults allegedly witnessed sexual assaults by Sandusky in 2000 and 2002.

Then in 2008, Victim One came forward and was believed. Sandusky met the Clinton County boy through The Second Mile, the charity for kids he had founded in 1977.

At the time, Sandusky was a volunteer football coach at Central Mountain High School and had frequent contact with the boy there.

The boy’s mother brought him to school officials and he told them about the alleged abuse.

According to the grand jury presentment, the boy — who was then in his early teens — alleged that Sandusky had forcibly performed oral sex on him more than 20 times, and forced him to perform oral sex on Sandusky.

The grand jury account is chilling.

Re: Sandusky/Penn State scandal

Why did the investigation take so long? Well, he didn't do anything so it took them all these years to fabricate and coerce stories out of all these people. Duh. ;)
