Russian Invasion of Ukraine

ICC issues warrants for former Russian Defense Minister and current Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu and Chief of the Russian General Staff Army General Valery Gerasimov for "the war crime of directing attacks at civilian objects" in Ukraine.

Bibi just needs one more for bridge.

Same. Like I said though, I think money talks, and Belgrade has been talking out of both sides of its mouth since the war began. They condemned Russia's invasion, but then refused to follow the West in sanctioning Moscow. So they've cashed in on continuing to funnel money for the Kremlin and its partners. However they have also served as a refuge for Russians who've fled Putin's war and found an unfriendly welcome elsewhere (Georgia is particularly wary/tired of them). Now there's an opportunity for Serbia to legitimately gobble up their share of far more valuable Western currency. So I can definitely see the desire to stay neutral-ish, leaving the door open to both legitimate and grey/black market transactions, and basically play at being a mobbed up version of Switzerland for sanctioned oligarchs.

Think of it as part of the legacy of Tito and the Non-Aligned Movement.

Tito was a Croat.

Serbia has a strong historical and cultural connection with Russia, and they are run by thugs, so one would assume they'd be full Dump on it.

Against a country that essentially doesn't even have a navy. Talk about asymmetric warfare. We used to only have to worry about that tactic on land. Now, it's properly deployed at sea. So, a superpower's mighty carriers and battleships could become useless...

Pretty crazy huh...

Im curious if Russia is waiting until they have final results from our presidential election. Pull out assets now until their asset/stooge in Washington DC could be installed.

Putin is definitely waiting. The Convict and his personality Cult in power means full on Russian expansion. Putin is 71. He wants the empire back before he dies, and the clock is ticking. The EU nations should all be putting 30% their GDP into a joint defense force. Maybe the US and UK stabbing them in the back will finally unify the real liberal democracies.

There was some speculation that Putin might actually prefer Harris to Trump because of how chaotic Trump has become. (which is saying something) Not sure how much I trust that but it is interesting...

By the sounds of it, it's a small/medium unit likely trying to flank Russian troops.

Still, pretty awesome.

It is awesome, but I don't think we can say flanking is likely. This seems to have been a quick exploratory thrust that met nothing, and so they are reinforcing so they won't be cut off, and now it's an irritant: 76 Russian villages under Ukrainian control as of today. Putin losing face every minute. Russians freaking out. Forces getting reassigned from the Kharkiv offensive. Defense by offense.

If the Ukrainians can establish themselves, and start flying sorties to defend their position and pick off a Russian fighter now and then, well... "every war ends at the same place."

From ISW:

The Russian government submitted a bill on August 15 to lower the admission age for the Russian Volunteer Society for Assistance to the Army, Aviation, and Navy of Russia (DOSAAF) from 18 years of age to 14.
