RPI V: Chase for the Championship (and Hobey)

Re: RPI V: Chase for the Championship (and Hobey)

That is not a question for me. I will be at our games this weekend, but I am not a member of the band.

My hope is that they will be. I expect that they will be at the quarterfinal series at Messa or Starr (if we make it that far), but I am not basing that on inside knowledge, just hope.

Well, if they couldn't make either Union game at Messa, or the Harvard/Dartmouth home series.....

To their credit, the band was loud and proud at Starr last Friday...
Sadly, we haven't won a game there since Slick Willy was in the Whitehouse...
The band's position - above the glass - made me think of how good they will sound at HFH when they are elevated above the glass at HFH...

There's no need to go throwing wild speculation around. There's a difference between winter break when the dorms are closed and everyone is kicked off campus and spring break which is only a week long and campus stays open through. I was as annoyed as any at some of the decisions made during the regular season but don't take that and assume they're going to purposely blow off every game because they missed a few over the course of the season.

They already had to forgo a budgeted women's overnight road trip in order to not miss any home men's weekends, so if missing the game at Union was necessary to make it to any women's games then so be it. That team deserves their support as well. Our fans alone do a fine job at Messa, having the band there is a bonus.

They will be at the games this weekend and they will be on the road next weekend if we advance. I don't know how many their numbers will be if people are from out of the area but they are attending all the men's playoff games.

Now if only the same could be said for attending the women's playoff games...

True. I probably shouldn't be talking, seeing as how I'm missing men's hockey this week for women's hockey.....

Actually, this brought up a thought: Suppose Cornell were seed 5-8 this year. How would they schedule the games? Would they just do both women's games in the afternoon, and then the men's game at night? Obviously I wasn't in Boston, so I don't know how they did it last year.

They'd probably schedule the one game for the afternoon.

That was easy.

*looks at ECAC website*

*facepalm*

Why did I think both semifinals were played at the same location.....

That's how it was up until last season. This season they switched to the two-location format. Previously the games would have been Sat/Sun at the #1 seed, now they are Friday at the top two seeds and Sunday at the highest remaining seed. We'll see how it works out (could be a pain in the event of upsets).

Re: RPI V: Chase for the Championship (and Hobey)

So, haters, did you all do the math yet?

Three points from home weekends and two from road weekends gives you how many points? That's right, it's 25. How many points were necessary this season to secure a first round bye? 24.

Do not doubt me.

The post that I have been waiting for since late Saturday. :D

Re: RPI V: Chase for the Championship (and Hobey)

Congratulations to All-ECAC First Team forward Chase Polacek. He's the first to be so honored from RPI since Murley and Cavosie in 2002.

Allen York was named All-ECAC Second Team, first Engineer to receive that level of honor since Marsters, Basiuk, and Croxton in 2004.

Jerry D'Amigo and Brandon Pirri named to the All-Rookie team, this is the third year running that there has been an Engineer on the team (Polacek in 2008, Cullen in 2009), and the first time since 1996 (Matt Garver, Alain St. Hilaire) that there are multiple Engineers on the All-Rookie team, though the All-Rookie Team was much larger back then (11 compared to only 6 now).

Re: RPI V: Chase for the Championship (and Hobey)

Great News
Pirri Should Of Been All 2nd Team As Well Thats Bs

Third team at the most, which was a longshot in my view.

Further, and GLM can back me up on this, I got the All-Rookie team perfect, although it really wasn't that hard. I would have replaced Backman with Valery-Trabucco on the All-ECAC team, and I'm glad they put Nash up over Dignard.

The 1st team is ackowledged and congratulated on their award. They did well to lead the league in points.
However, in my books, the 2 best players in this league are Greening and McIntyre

Re: RPI V: Chase for the Championship (and Hobey)

If you want to willfully ignore the other 11 teams in the conference, I won't stop you.

Meanwhile... here.

Two WERE "ignored". Clarkson and Q-Pac.

And RC, when I first read that (granted I didn't see the links, but I was a little rushed to get to work), I didn't necessarily think there was too much truth behind it. But now that I read closer..... wow.
