RPI & Union @ Quinnipiac & Princeton (1/11, 1/12)

Re: RPI & Union @ Quinnipiac & Princeton (1/11, 1/12)

Coach Appert's thoughts on the weekend:

<iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/GOQBUeKkaTg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Clear and concise-coach really told it like it was. Only wished he was asked about injury status again. We are surely in need of being as close to full strength as possible for this weekend. QU is just a very good all around team that makes few mistakes and gives you just so little. PU is always tough at home and this year is no exception. They seem to get take advantage of Baker Rink and come out with fire and put you on your heels quickly. With the officials we drew for this weekend, the task is a bit daunting. Our record when Kotyra is on the ice is abyssmal.

Why should he be asked again, when he's going to say the exact same thing he did before? We know who is in and who is out. I firmly believe that any question we have about injury status will be answered when the line charts are released. Why push the issue?

First, inquiring minds like to know. Second-if you listen carefully to SA, he is extremely careful with his choice of words. There is often a subtle change that gives you a clue. Would certainly love to know a bit more about Kasdorf and Neal-even if they cannot go tonight, perhaps for tomorrow.

You're the doctor, but I doubt that the one extra day will be the cure. I suspect we will see Neal today, but Kasdorf will be out at least until next weekend.

I think you will see Neal. O'Grady probably. I don't think there's any chance we Kazzy. As Seth alluded to, there is no way in heck they are going to rush him back. The games in late February and March are the ones we want to have him for.

EDIT: Ralph beat me to these thoughts...

That was my thinking-sure the games later on are most important-but we have got to start doing well in the ECAC games now or we will be 12th seed when all is said and done. That is not a good place to try and make a run from. I suspect Neal is in. Kaz out and O'Grady possible tonight. I would just have liked to hear that Kaz had another good day of practice-and perhaps even some contact. That would tell this doctor a lot about what the inital injury might have been like and perhaps a bit more about what we can expect for the near future. I am just so used to taking a detailed medical history to arrive at a diagnosis and prognosis and with SA it is incredibly difficult (as well it should be). He plays his cards not close to his vest-he plays them up against his chest.:)

Wicked-As i just posted-totally agree for tonight. Reserving judgement on tomorrow. We really need to come away from this weekend with something. If we do another Dartmouth/Harvard road weekend-we will be way too deep in the hole to pick our heads out.

Doc - Just to clarify, I don't believe Kasdorf practiced at all in team drills on Wed...just some keeper drills, if I understood it correctly. It's possible that he saw some rubber yesterday, but I'd bet not.

NJ RPI Alums getting it done tomorrow night at Princeton. Our great Coach, the Honorable and Esteemed (hows that Aspy? :p) Seth Appert will address the beer soaked masses prior to leading his team to victory. My sources are indicating that Doc D. may be a late addition to the event-- as motivational speaker. :D

RCNJ - Trip to RPI Men's Ice Hockey at Princeton
Date: January 12, 2013 Time: 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM
Come join the Rensselaer Club of New Jersey as we make our 30th annual trip to Princeton to watch the Engineers battle the Princeton Tigers. Opening face-off for this ECAC League contest is 4 pm at Hobey Baker Rink. Let’s see if the loud RPI fans can lead the Engineers to a decisive victory. Tickets cost $11 last year and should cost approximately the same this year for all attendees. No online registration this year. Please let us know by Friday November 16, 2012 how many tickets you will be needing. Once you have e-mailed Sandeep Nandy at rcnj94@yahoo.com, he will let you know payment instructions. Prior to the game, the group will be meeting at Triumph Brewery for a pre-game meal. RPI Men’s Ice Hockey Head Coach Seth Appert will be the keynote speaker at lunch and the local Princeton alumni association will be joining us for lunch and a trivia contest between RPI and Princeton. Please let event chairperson Sandeep Nandy know by December 26, 2012 if you will be joining us for lunch.

Why do think that if he can't play today, he could have a miraculous recovery in under 24 hours? is it something in the NJ air? ;)

I realize you posted that tongue in cheek-that was not the point at all. Just think for example if you had a player who really WAS able to play but you want to be cautious. You do not start him in a friday game but you have second thoughts if you feel there is a very real need to win the Saturday game. Giving up 4 league points this weekend is not something we want to look forward to. Truthfully i think Kaz is out for the weekend. But I listen very carefully to SA-he left a lot of room between the lines when discussing the injury. All i am saying is that I do not think our coach has ruled out anything for this weekend yet.

Thanks for posting-did not know they had this planned for the Triumph Brewing Company. Pretty OK bar food in there and walking distance from campus. We have to wait for some others to join us and will be too late getting there. Often times the RPI crowd can be overwhelming at Baker Rink-it helps a great deal though if our band comes down and i don't think that is happening this year.

Just a feeling-if these 2 games were the playoffs-we would be seeing him in goal for at least one if not both.

You have said it yourself, it isn't worth risking a more serious injury. Look what happened to RGIII last weekend. I just can't see him playing on Saturday if he isn't good to go today.

Of course i agree-but we also have very little clue as to whether he could go today if absolutely necessary. As i sometimes do-just tossing out some stuff for us to chew over. The rest of the season is far too important to risk him for one game.

For the sake of what our opponents have to prepare for, perhaps it's better to be left in the dark.

Re: RPI & Union @ Quinnipiac & Princeton (1/11, 1/12)

I had a chance to speak with Union head coach Rick Bennett yesterday. Among the things I asked about, what makes Quinnipiac so dangerous?

Here's how he responded to that question: http://picosong.com/3xWu/
