RPI & Union @ Quinnipiac & Princeton (1/11, 1/12)

Re: RPI & Union @ Quinnipiac & Princeton (1/11, 1/12)

I love the line shake ups...good combos of size and speed on each line. How about the twin towers !!!! Curadi - Bokenfohr ! Wow...

This line up sure does give a different look. That is one big set of defensemen together.

My guess is that the first two pairings will see 80% of the ice time tonight. I like the forward combinations - three lines that should be able to score. I wonder if JL-MB-MZ are also the 1st line PP unit.

Re: RPI & Union @ Quinnipiac & Princeton (1/11, 1/12)

Holy moley, that's some different combinations! Bokenfohr earns his spot knocking out Dolan, O'Grady's out, Neal's in, Kasdorf isn't in the lineup, and it looks like Merriam's getting the nod.

B4 had a good game at BU. MB and MZ need as much ice time as possible and someone to set up. JL may be that player. O'Grady wasn't himself in the BU 3rd period. Go RPI.

Re: RPI & Union @ Quinnipiac & Princeton (1/11, 1/12)

Very good game to watch at QU tonight. So glad they had a video feed. Lots of scoring chances for a game that ended 1-1 but 3 posts were hit and several clean breakaways stopped. Game seemed to take forever though as so many pucks left the ice surface into the crowd. is that common for that rink? I cannot recall that happening so often.

Re: RPI & Union @ Quinnipiac & Princeton (1/11, 1/12)

Union demonstrates how to protect the third period lead and holds on for a 3-2 win at Princeton. Union was assessed four minutes of penalty time with about 5 to go (and if you include Princeton pulling the goalie)-was shorthanded for the last 5 minutes and did not give up anything close to a good chance.

First blemish on Qpacs league record. Must have bee a big effort. I hope Union can do the same or better tomorrow

Both goalies made game-savers when they needed to.

No, not common at all. There were more than usual tonight.

Good job by the Engineers. I'll take the point but feel like we left one on the ice.

I saw that, along with the rest of the third period. Union was all over Princeton and the Princeton goalie was great. I think they will be a little tired tomorrow, but we had better be ready for a fight. There was no give up in that Princeton team. They just played a more talented Union team.

Union is a good team-but has lost a little something from last year, or at least it seems so. Princeton is no slouch either. They are better than last year and seemingly well coached. They remind me a lot of the old St Lawrence style-start the game, see how it goes, make adjustments between periods and give you an entirely new look the rest of the game. I always felt back in those days that the SLU coach Joe Marsh was one of the best strategic coaches around. Princeton is beginning to have that look about them.

Funny you mentioned that, did you see Joe Marsh at the game? The NBC cameras picked him up. Didn't Princetons coach go to SLU ? Maybe Marsh is giving him pointers.

How is the P.U. webcast? Not free I noticed.

I missed all of that watching the QU broadcast on the computer. I did not know anything about the new Princeton coach-I think he is only there a couple of years. I always watched carefully over the years when we played SLU either in Troy or up in Canton when we got up there. Many times we had so much more talent than they did-and came out like gangbusters. Only to see them make whatever changes they needed and come back on us. Just always thought highly of him as a coach. If he does have anything to do with the Princeton program it will be to their benefit.

The only thing free at Princeton is the hockey program they hand out at the game. Their webcast is just OK. As with many schools, the announcers are pretty much homers. Our guys at WRPI seem to be the exception and really try to be neutral and fair-much of the time.

The 3rd period was on after RPI's game ended Doc. :D Princeton's coach Bob Pryer succeeded Gadowsky. He played at SLU and was a long time AC/AHC for Marsh. You're spot on re: Marsh. The godfather of ECAC coaches and a class act.

Oddly i don't remember Pryer well. Did not see much of the third period on TV of the Union game as Jen was watching the second Sherlock Holmes Movie (it stunk) while i was on the computer with QU. SLU certainly had talented players-but i always felt Marsh got more out of what he recruited than most. His system (whatever it was) really used to change during a game quite a bit-he always seemed to devise some way of cutting down passing lanes and clean shots at the goal. I too always felt he was a class act in the league.
