RPI @ Union (NC, 10/30), Army @ RPI (10/31)

Re: RPI @ Union (NC, 10/30), Army @ RPI (10/31)

Nice to see that Union got one vote in the uscho rankings survey.

Re: RPI @ Union (NC, 10/30), Army @ RPI (10/31)

..which is exactly one more vote than RPI got :D (sorry I couldn't resist)

Keeping track of things Union fans are crowing about in this thread, we have a list that includes:

1) Barely earning one point against St. Cloud.
2) Having one person out of 40 choosing Union as the 20th best team in the country.

Surprised nothing so far about sweeping the almighty Maine.

Only get nervous when you see a Game DQ. Those are called so rarely these days that I'd hate to see what it takes to actually be given one.

Then again, seeing what it takes might make for a long lasting memory.

As for the game Friday, at least Dan Peace isn't around to be given a phantom fighting major.

Called so rarely if you school name does not have I, P, ad R in it, not necessarily in that order. Same with penalty shots against you.

I remember that fighting major, I think it's one of the few times in my memory a band was actually asked to play Three Blind Mice. Even though that was our trial game for four refs.

Mike Baker has proven to be a terrible official in every game I've seen him in and he seems to get the call often for RPI-Union games. In other words, I fully expect to see his special brand of Haterade out there on Friday.

Didn't he do game 2 of the Cornell series with Murphy?

If Ken Schott gets a vote in that pole....Lets make that 0 votes

Usually known as Dumb and Dumber.

Where have you gone, Scott Hansen? A nation turns its lonely eyes to you.

ABSOLUTELY Not. That guy cost us a first-round bye in the 05-06 season. Instead, we had to make sure only one team had not won an ECAC playoff series (at the time).

Yeah, if you wanted to nitpick, you could find one or two things to harp on with every referee. That makes you a Got 6. You don't want to be a Got 6. When they say "don't be that guy," they're talking about Got 6.

I go back before your time, son. Trust me, we miss Hansen.

And I don't know what the smeg you're talking about with that last sentence. Or the first one, the Engineers finished 5 points out of a first-round bye in 05-06, which is more than you can blame on a referee.

Oh well, for some reason the person I sat with that year thought we could have had the first round bye. Of course some thoughts also included the reason for your faux article on another thread. As for the last sentence, we played Quinnipiac that year in the playoffs, in their first year of ECAC. I don't think I need to say more on that.

Luckily (at least from how you describe) I don't paruse these boards enough to know of "Got 6", or at least do not have that good of a memory. In any case, in general Hansen doesn't do too badly. There's a few refs in the league that I respect. Obviously this is not for those who have the name contained within an Irish song about chowder. :P

Re: RPI @ Union (NC, 10/30), Army @ RPI (10/31)

Let's hope that Union continues their recent domination of RPI. If I'm not mistaken, we've one the last five meetings (I'm including the 1-1 game in the Governor's Cup where we won in a shootout to move on in the tournament). Should be a battle though.

Yes. Since shootouts don't technically count that would still make Union unbeaten (4-0-1) in the last five and 5-2-2 since Appert took over.

Of course, RPI started off undefeated against Clarkson for a few years after George Roll took over, too. IIRC, the overall records for Clarkson and RPI were fairly similar in the first three years of the new coach's reign, so it's partially explained by that.

Recent, but of course as we all know, historically uncharacteristic domination (as evidenced by the 43-19-9 all time edge by the men of Troy).

Re: RPI @ Union (NC, 10/30), Army @ RPI (10/31)

This is our last weekend to practice before the real games start.
I like having Union @ Union because it will give us an idea of what to expect from an ECAC team.
I don't know what their team make up is, but if they are expecting the same things from RPI that they have faced the last three years, they will be in for a very long night.
We are better in every area. We are much faster. We play with a purpose. And we play for 60 minutes.
I see this as another four point weekend, with a close game Friday and an easier time on Saturday night. JMO
