RPI & Union @ Clarkson & SLU (2/8, 2/9)

Re: RPI & Union @ Clarkson & SLU (2/8, 2/9)

You know what they say about great minds.

I am at a stage where i am lucky if i remember what they say about dinner.:) But I really like the way that line works together. I might like to see them as a line on the power play as they seem to control the puck in the opponent's zone so well. They keep their legs moving and they do not go down easily. Just a thought.

Hopefully we can keep focus for tomorrow-this was a stimulating win. Would be nice to see Tinordi back in the line up tomorrow. Losing him would take the edge off this win tonight for me.

I'd like to see Tuna stimulate Clarkson tomorrow night.
About 4" here so far...

Just a little history-We have made the North country trip 49 times since i have followed RPI hockey (we had made the trip I beleive 11 times before I began to follow the team). In the 11 previous trips we got zero points=five times, 2 points=five times and 3 points=once. In the 49 times that i had followed we got 4 points=three times, 3 points=two times, 2 points=sixteen times, 1 point=5 times and zero points=twenty three times.

Summary totals- 60 total trips up to the frigid north have given us the following
win/win 4 points= 3 times
win/tie 3 points= 1 time
win/loss 2 points= 21 times
tie/tie 2 points= never
tie/loss 1 point= 5 times
loss/loss 0 points= 28 times

I would think these numbers indicate how tough this trip has been for us in the past-and the quality of the opponents over th eyears. With our overall historical record close to 1000 wins and a winning percentage over .500, our record up there has not exactly been sterling.

TMI, doc.

RC: not for me-My life has as much as I can handle-for the team, for the team!! This is the kind of win that they all have to appreciate-they worked hard, they gave up 3 PP goals, they had a third period where everything was called against them, they were barely holding on at the end of the third-and they pulled out a win. This one has to rev them up. If they come out flat tonight Freud would be astonished.:)

Now THERE'S some math involved!! :)

Re: RPI & Union @ Clarkson & SLU (2/8, 2/9)

I just checked, and according to Accuweather, they are only expecting about 5 inches of snow in Potsdam and 6.5 in Canton. Is that correct?

Sorry for the delay on this one, I just noticed it now ... We accumulated well over a foot of snow at least

Jen and I have been up there for 2 of the 3 times we swept. We have seen a couple splits and usually the double losses. I have not done the math about other trips we have made-but out of 240 total points possible up there-we have managed only 68 total. That is just one tough trip for us. I never kept track of the Cornell/Colgate trips since we only attended a couple of those and did not bother with the other trips since the partners have changed a few times.

I used to do a lot of road trips back when I was single and when the old Friends of RPI Hockey used to have bus trips to road games but not much anymore. Have only done the North Country trip twice. Once they picked up 3 points with a tie of Clarkson and a win at Canton and the other time we were swept which included being blown out by SLU in one of the few games in my lifetime when I left a game early (think they lost something like 9-2).

Re: RPI & Union @ Clarkson & SLU (2/8, 2/9)

I was right. :) Once before I went to RPI, 84-85, and then a few years ago.

I know my freshman year, we picked up at least 6 points on the entire series (swept in the NC, we won Black Friday over CCT), checking CHS... that's what I thought, lost the SLU game, couldn't pick up the entire sweep. :(

Close-once in the seventies (perhaps 77-78) once in the 2003-2004 era (when we had a rather poor record) and of course 84-85

Jenny and I missed the most recent win/win but were there for the other 2. We have had a few other opportunites by winning the first game-but something always seemed to happen to affect the second game from being a win-usually just good play from the opposition but as i mentioned-some rather weird calls and non calls. Tonight-remains to be seen. I just hope they let them play and call only the obvious.

Now I have to do research. I thought the first time was before I was at RPI.

Edit: You're correct. It was 77-78. BTW, it was 2004-5, but that is the same era.

It is certainly time for another shot at it. The other numbers do not stand out (3 point and 2 point and 1 point weekends). But the 28 zero points versus 3 four points really tells quite a story about this series of games. I have always looked at those numbers like I look at our overall record against Denver-with a bit of awe.
