The call came from the Union bench to review the play. No penalty was called on the ice. Union player sold it well by lying on the ice for a bit.
 
I watched it several times on replay and it looked like Tinling just reacted to the Union forward skating into him. I’ve never seen a 5 minute major for responding to contact initiated by the other player.

The refs were probably looking to even up the majors all game.

Agree - really don't know what they saw that warranted the 5 minutes (let alone 2)
 
I can’t believe that last score. You are up by 2. Make the safest play. Don’t shoot into the forward’s skates.
