RPI Tourney (11/27, 11/28) (Bentley, LSSU, RPI, Union)

Re: RPI Tourney (11/27, 11/28) (Bentley, LSSU, RPI, Union)

Gulp.

Well, if we aren't likely to gain any psychological advantage by looking forward to the sixth period, perhaps we should try a different tack.

Special tournament rule: While a third period and/or overtime will be played, as necessary to satisfy NCAA dictates as to what constitutes an official game, the team that is leading at the end of the second period of the championship game will be declared the tournament champion.

Hey, it's RPI's tournament - we make the rules. :D

So you're saying we would have won the tournament we played two years ago where we blew it against Notre Dame, and I got my debut on this site?

Re: RPI Tourney (11/27, 11/28) (Bentley, LSSU, RPI, Union)

Good to hear Helfrich is back-that was expected from coach's comments previously. Not sure I like the probably attached to Bergin-concussions can linger and just hope he is back at 100%. Lee sounds like he is probably the last of the 3 to get back in the line up. Any information on what his injury is beside calling it a lower body injury?

Seth followed "probably" with Bergin being a go unless he has trouble during or following practice today. My guess is he's been symptom free as I don't think they'd green light him for any on-ice activity if he were having headaches, etc. Appert mentioned ankle for Lee.

Not to mention Mike was wearing the stop sign jersey (or whatever our no-contact jerseys look like). He practiced with a regular jersey today according to the article, and hopefully on Friday he's ready to go.

Appert described Bentley as physical and an up-tempo type of team. Sounds like we can expect more of what we saw vs. Niagara and SLU. Seth said we had a good week of practice, hope the boys can carry it into Fri. night. If RPI were to score a few early goals, it would be nice. :p

With Helfrich back this weekend any opinions if Helfrich and Polocek will be unitied or if Coach will try to spread the scoring around?

He'll keep them together. They've played well together for quite a while, and Coach won't mess up a good thing.

The nice thing about having the freshman line is that they can score and SA has lots of options-he doesnt have to be forced to spread the scoring around from Helfrich and Polacek. They have always seemed to play well together and my guess is they are on the same line again.

I agree with both of you (Doc and Flagdude) and i look forward to having that line reunited.

Re: RPI Tourney (11/27, 11/28) (Bentley, LSSU, RPI, Union)

So it's confidence, not momentum.
Call it what you want, bottom line is winning breeds more winning and you can not have momentum without some confidence. Confidence alone does not win games, you still have to play well and see results or else you're going to lose that confidence - and i'd consider winning a bunch of games in a row to be 'momentum', but you can call it whatever you want.

OK, so we're in agreement that the concept of momentum from game to game is stupid. It's a matter of having confidence or not. Good stuff. I like you, ThePeople.

Here's what to look for against LSSU:

...Goaltending that has the ability to steal a game

...Goaltending that can come unglued if the defense doesn't show up

...A pretty stout PK

...a good crop of underclassmen

...Chad Nehring to continue his hot scoring pace

...Not many penalties

...Big net presence with the lumbering forward Will Acton parked right on top of the blue

...An ability to establish an early lead, but also the ability to not defend that lead for an extended period of time

...30 shots on net

...30 shots against

Bentley - LSSU for the early game tomorrow (I'd be shocked if the attendance breaks 800) with UC - RPI playing at 7 for the championship.

This will be the second match between the Dutchmen and the Engineers of (at least) 4 this season, and the first in the span of eleven days.

Re: RPI Tourney (11/27, 11/28) (Bentley, LSSU, RPI, Union)

Just hoping we are healthy for tomorrow night. No York tonight, no Bergin tonight, and losing Burgdoerfer during the game puts us in a difficult position. Will be interesting to hear coach's comments about our injury situation.

Union-LSSU may have been one of the worst games I've witnessed in person.

It was not the Miracle on Ice, I'll grant you that, but the teams did combine for 60 shots and I thought both goalies were solid (not spectacular, but solid).

Plus LSSU had the game in the bag late in OT but Haines couldn't hit an empty net.

Was it a fun game to watch? Not really, but I've seen worse.

RPI TV is back with full coverage of today's festivities!

We'll be streaming both of today's games on Ustream here:
http://www.ustream.tv/channel/rpi-tv-channel-6-stream---live-football-and-hockey

Broadcast start times are 3:53 PM and 6:50 PM.

We'll actually be on wired ethernet this time, so expect the stream to be a lot less laggy. Also, I think I've finally figured out how to run the scoreboard program =).

I'm working right now on getting yesterday's games transcoded. RPI vs Bentley will be up in about 3-4 hours, LSSU vs Union will be up by Monday.

They'll both be available here:
