RPI Tourney (11/27, 11/28) (Bentley, LSSU, RPI, Union)

Re: RPI Tourney (11/27, 11/28) (Bentley, LSSU, RPI, Union)

For Bentley, Lake State, and especially Union fans, bear in mind that you can listen to all four games of the tournament on WRPI.

Re: RPI Tourney (11/27, 11/28) (Bentley, LSSU, RPI, Union)

I'd like to see both RPI and Union advance to the championship game, but on the other hand it could mean 4 meetings (or more) this season. I think so many games could take some of the edge off of the rivalry. (And I know RPI fans don't necessarily view this as their number one rivalry, but Union fans do IMO.)

Playing each other that many times bores me to tears, I like seeing a variety of opponents but I also realize that scheduling games is a tricky thing.

I'll check in and display my usual ignorance. Which team would be favored in the Union LSSU matchup?

I don't know much about them but it looks to me like they've played some pretty good opponents so far, and any team that can beat that Alaska team has got to be pretty good
I'd have to say LSSU should be favored

SA feels that Union is our natural rival, like CC is DU's natural rival, and thus playing them more often makes sense.

Well we did tie Alaska, so they would definitely give Union a run for their money in game 1. Should be an interesting tournament, and who knows, Bentley may end up winning the whole darn thing, and be just like Mercyhurst last year.

At this point I think it would be time to start worrying about the team if Bentley wins the tournament.
OOC games obviously don't matter that much but this tournament will be the momentum into the next week which will arguably be 3 of the most important home games of the regular season for RPI

RPI hasn't had a 'blowout' win yet this year despite playing 3 or 4 teams that they probably should have. With a healthy team this offense needs to start clicking and put up 5+ and keep pressure all game against a Bentley team that just is not very good.

Obviously the second night will be much tougher no matter who we play.

I think I can speak for all RPI fans when I say I've had enough of our team playing down to the opponents level for the past 4+ years, I hope the auto repair shops are open on Saturdays. :p

Why do wins need to be blowouts? A win is a win is a win. Unless you think it'll help our "RPI", not much of a reason to win by a bundle. We dumped the chicken, therefore we no longer have "Hawk" in us anymore, if you remember the Mighty Ducks.

Hopefully Appert's message from the Record sinks in.

Speaking with some experience-rarely have I seen an RPI team that did not play to the level of the opponent. It just seems to be the nature of the beast. I too think we should be able to handle Bentley rather easily (if we are at full strength) and would have some serious questions if we do not. Actually I would start to be very concerned if we see the starting RPI lineup for that game and it does not include Helfrich or Bergin. I suspect that Lee is rather seriously hurt and may miss the tournament.

Re: RPI Tourney (11/27, 11/28) (Bentley, LSSU, RPI, Union)

Where the hell is this coming from?

Heard coach SA give an update on the injuries in his pregame comments for the Niagara game and he mentioned that Helfrich could play and that Bergin should be back for the tournament-but he hesitated when it came to Lee and said he has suffered several lower body injuries without giving any time frame for his return. Perhaps reading between the lines a bit-but would have thought he would have said something similar about Lee as he did for Helfrich and Bergin. If it's one thing we have discovered it is that SA is very careful with his choice of words.

Re: RPI Tourney (11/27, 11/28) (Bentley, LSSU, RPI, Union)

You have to read between the lines for a lot of things these days. However, I'd rather see CJ play at 100% than to play at 75% and a higher risk of energy.

That is what I am thinking-I trust that SA will keep him rested until he is at 100%. Coach realizes which games are most important.

Not only that, but overall health. Hence why Bergin was red-shirted last year.

I don't know much about any of the teams the Lakers will be going up against next weekend or how we stack up, but here is a scouting report on us:

The Lakers are led in scoring by senior Zac Macvoy, and juniors Rick Schofield and Chad Nehring. Nehring got his team-leading 8th goal tonight but isn't flashy, he did very little in his first 2 seasons here and has been a very pleasant surprise as he has developed a knack for scoring this year that seemingly came out of nowhere. The Lakers don't play extremely physical hockey but a rather boring game with a lot of passing and a lot of shots on net, especially from the perimeter. We have a solid group of D-men led by seniors Steve Kaunisto and Simon Gysbers who both are offensive defenseman who take a lot of shots. Freshmen Zach Trotman, recently named to the NHL Central Scouting Service's Draft Watch list, is also a solid defenseman for the Lakers. Goalie Brian Mahoney-Wilson is a small goaltender who likes to play out at the top crease. He is prone to giving up big rebounds but has a fine glove hand and has played pretty well thus far for the Lakers. The Lakers beat # 12 Nebraska-Omaha last weekend in Omaha and let a 2-0 lead and a chance to sweep # 10 Alaska slip away tonight in the Soo. With their solid play of late i would think the Lakers stand a fighting chance in the tourney but as i said, i know nothing of any of the other teams in it....The extent of my knowledge consists of watching RPI freshmen CJ Lee play 2 games last year for the Green Bay Gamblers lol so any info on any of these teams would be appreciated!

If you look around the internet (also posted around here), you will be able to see some films. Only one loss at home, and we have six draft picks on the team, including one returning for the tournament, and our goaltender. If we meet, I'm sure it will be a good game.

Bentley may surprise you again this year, despite losing their top scoring line from last year. This year's frosh are playing well up front, and the Falcons only lost one D-man. Rank, who was in net for our OT win in Troy last year, was in net both games against Army this weekend, so Calvi, who had been alternating in net, is apparently hurt. But, otherwise, everyone is healthy, except for Peterson who has missed the last four games. The Falcons will be looking for their first OOC win this season against Brown this Tuesday as a warm up for your tourney. I will be in southern Connecticut for turkey day, so I am thinking about driving up to Troy for the Friday games; do you think that I would be able to get tickets at the door?

The students are off for Thanksgiving, and the tourney has not sold out in many years.
