RPI Recruiting II: Knowlton's Rangers (enlistments open)

Re: RPI Recruiting II: Knowlton's Rangers (enlistments open)

Nice initial hit but not impressed with what the rest of the video showed- hope that attitude isn't coming with him to RPI -the ECAC will not put up with a cross look let alone a cross punch.

In the BCHL there IS fighting...if you listen to the play by play guy, Luke laid a great open ice hit on Sanfred King. The fight was initiated by Aaron McGill, who took umbrage with it and jumped Luke...

Luke is well aware of NCAA rules but where he plays now I hope you don't think he should stand still and NOT defend himself...any fan of hockey knows THAT rule.;)

Of course. We're just concerned about the gloves staying on.

It was a very nice Campbell-like hit like from the playoffs a few years back.

HAHAHA...rest assured: as a family, our priority is education and honing HOCKEY SKILLS...if Luke wanted to hone his fighting skills we'd have sent him to the 'dub' :)

Very well played. BTW, has Luke thought of a possible major? Many of the players go to the Business/Management school, although our sciences and engineering are top quality.

I should let babo answer, but I am fairly certain that on the interview posted in the Penticton blog after he signed with RPI, he said that he would not major in engineering, and he may have added that he would major in business.

With what is happening in medicine-I am beginning to think that is what I should have done:(

Not sure how I feel about you defending Luke on this blog. There weren't blogs when I was playing but I wouldn't want my mom on here defending me or talking me up. He obviously has talent or he wouldn't be where he is so maybe let his hockey skills speak on the ice. JMO. ;)

Last I checked our business school is highly rated too!

Luke is considering the Lally School. However, I will encourage him to minor in Engineering...as I was SO surprised that is offered!!! The world could ALWAYS use more engineers, no?

It will be tough to get a minor in engineering because the core requirements are quite rigorous (twelve credits of math, eight credits of physics, science requirement, etc.). I've never heard of anyone minoring in any kind of engineering at RPI without their major being some other type of engineering.

Thanks for that...I also know the student athlete has a tougher row to hoe so he might decide to keep it simple...it was mentioned during our visit and I found it interesting...

I will give my opinion on Luke and the other players on the team as I get to watch them...just as you do...opinions are allowed, no? Whether I talk him up or not, you're right, his play will speak for itself. I look forward to giving my opinion on all the players and look forward to hearing yours...thanks for sharing how you feel, JMO

BTW...I just bought tix to RPI @ Quinnipiac on January 8th...their rink is about 5 miles form us and I'm excited to watch the engineers beat the Bobcats.

Definitely agree on the first part. However, if he's interested in engineering there's no reason to rule it out as a major. There have historically been a number engineering majors on the team each year, some of them key players. (Most recently thinking of Jake Luthi). I really firmly believe that engineering is neither "harder" nor more work than Lally or any other major.

If you had thought about your initial post for a even millisecond, then you'd know that if you want to survive playing in a league with fighting, you don't back down from a direct challenge. Ever.

Luke made an excellent, clean body check in open ice, then he responded after he was challenged by the other team's goon. If you don't understand this, the simplest of hockey's unwritten rules, we'll have to send you to Don Cherry's Hockey 101 remedial class.

Hopefully he will be receptive to the idea...we also have the Hartford Campus not far from us so he can augment whatever he studies during the summers...RPI is a win/win no matter what he chooses!

A FAR tougher road, IMO. If the casual fan had any idea of how much work being a D1 hockey player is, they'd be even more amazed with our student athletes who excel academically. That is one of the main reasons I love the league, warts and all. Our kids go to class and earn degrees of distinction.

Q's rink has been on my short list of rinks to visit. I hear its nice...might have to make the trek down!

The rink is nice...but I must say a bit disappointing for a brand spanking new rink...If you're putting up bank for 'state of the art', they missed out on something...the complex is awesome as the basketball arena is within as well. And the athletes will be housed in the same complex up on a hill overlooking Sleeping Giant Park...bucolic...but the inside of the rink leaves something to be desired for my money.

Do let us know if you ever come to a game...I'll buy you a beer!
