Re: RPI Recruiting II: Knowlton's Rangers (enlistments open)

Have heard an increasing number of stories about younger players jumping at the first offer and then later realizing that there will be more options down the road. Sounds like what happened with Higgs and Canisius as well.

Cautionary tale for all young players. I remember Bobby Goepfert telling me that his decision to go to Providence was based on a desire to play in Hockey East and the concern that no one else would give him an offer - Providence was the first one he got - but as it turned out there were a lot of HE teams interested in him, and he just was never a good fit at PC.

Recruiting is a dance on both ends, the school and the recruit both. Both sides need to know the right time to pull the trigger. For the school, if they wait too long the recruit will go somewhere else. For the recruit, wait too long and the school may take someone else.

Glad to see that in this instance, both sides seem very happy with the way things shook out.

Re: RPI Recruiting II: Knowlton's Rangers (enlistments open)

The defenceman we aren't recruiting was the defensive player of the week:D :

"...Coldwell recorded three points (2g, 1a) and a plus-three rating which helped the Buccaneers capture two victories during the week. The 19-year-old scored the first goal of the game and registered a game high plus-three rating in the 5-4 shootout win over Fargo on Wednesday. Coldwell then added a goal in the 6-5 victory vs. Waterloo on Saturday. The Bucs hold a 7-1-0 record this season when he scores a goal. Playing in his first USHL season, the native of Vancouver, Washington leads Des Moines defenseman with 15 points (8g, 7a) in 25 games which also ranks tied for eighth in scoring among League blueliners. Am I going to hear it if we are indeed after him. :p

You and Ralph Baer speak to the heart of the matter. It is a very heady experience for a 17 year old to receive an offer for an athletic scholarship in the head coach's office of a D-I school. That being said, it's equally heady for the parents who have invested so much in their child's success. The emotion MUST be removed and the PROCESS must be gone through to ensure no regrets.

In place of Hockeyhound (who has been among the missing here of late) I'd be happy to pitch in to sponsor a taste test for you when you arrive for Luke's first game at HFH. :p[/QUOTE

Rich will be home from Iraq in early to mid January...I can tell you that there will be NO WAITING until Luke arrives at RPI for us to attend a game! I'll let you guys know when we'll be at a HFH and we can introduce ourselves...I relish the thought of joining the RPI 'family'...

Hopefully, the result will be better than when you and Luke visited for the Union game. :)

If you embrace the ideas of "rivalry", I suggest February 6th. February 20th is probably sold out (at least the good seats). Otherwise, most are a pretty good choice.

If it is legal, I would think that that she could get tickets for the BRF! through the team. However, it probably isn't. I agree that the Clarkson game with the honoring of the 1985 team would be the next best choice.

If it comes to that, I have two spares for Freakout that can be arranged. Have family visiting so I bought 5 tickets together, leaving my two season seats in section 16 free. :D

You are absolutely correct-it is a family. And you are a most welcome addition. Happy Holidays-Doc and Jenny
