RPI Recruit Thread 2022-23

Edit: Sezenack commented that he was surprised that JK was going to the BCHL when he could play in the USHL, and added that this was also a good spot. I agree with that. I wonder if Coach Smith is steering recruits to western Canada. Perhaps he figures that there will be fewer scouts from other teams there than in the USHL trying to poach.

I wouldn't be surprised if Smith is steering recruits to friendly junior organizations, but I'd be surprised if fewer scouts was part of the motivation. While it is arguable that the BCHL may not be the league it once was (before the emergence of the USHL as the premier development league for Division I), it's still unquestionably one of the best. I doubt you'll find many (any?) top teams without players from the BCHL. It's extensively scouted and not a very good candidate for hiding players. Unfortunately, that's true of any of the leagues that would actually benefit the players (and us) by enhancing their level of pre-college competition. About the only way to keep players from being exposed to the prying claws of other programs would be to bring them early to Troy - and with the portal even that may not guarantee 4 years in an Engineers uniform. Like everyone else we have to keep developing our program so players want to be here.
