Forward Danny Ciccarello Commits to RPI

November 3, 2020

Salmon Arm, B.C. — The Salmon Arm Silverbacks are excited to announce that 19-year-old forward Danny Ciccarello has committed to play NCAA Div. I hockey at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI).

The Kirkland, Que. native is tied for fourth on the Backs in scoring so far in the Okanagan Cup with five points — four goals and an assist. He spent the previous three years at St. Mark’s School, where he totalled an incredible 86 goals and 77 assists for 163 points in just 89 games.

“I am obviously very excited for reaching this milestone in my journey,” Ciccarello said. “It’s nice to see the hard work and sacrifice of myself, my parents, my friends, family — everyone around me — has paid off and I’m thrilled that it’s going to be with RPI. Coach [David] Smith has done a great job with the program, making it competitive every year that he’s been there. For me the biggest thing was having a coaching staff that believed in me, that understands the time and effort I’ve put into hockey and have seen my constant progress.”

Last season, Ciccarello and current Silverback teammate Tucker Hartmann were co-captains at St. Mark’s, and Ciccarello scored 36 goals and 70 points in just 29 games.

“The Salmon Arm Silverbacks would like to congratulate Danny on his commitment to RPI,” Silverbacks head coach Tyler Shattock said. “Danny has a high energy motor and you’d be hard pressed to find a guy with a better shot than him. He’s got a real ability to score goals when he gets to the right areas. Overall, they’re going to get a guy who is willing to work his tail off and has a real offensive touch when he gets the opportunity.”

The RPI Engineers compete in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Hockey League, composed of 12 total teams.

Hear from Danny about his commitment in the video below:

Meijer AAA 16U forward Muzzatti signs NAHL tender

JULY 15, 2020
The Meijer AAA hockey organization of the NAPHL are pleased to announce that 16U forward Sutter Muzzatti has signed a North American Hockey League (NAHL) tender agreement with the Austin Bruins of the NAHL’s Central Division.

Muzzatti, 17, completed his second season competing in the NAPHL with Meijer AAA during the 2019-20 season. The 6’5/209 lbs. native of Okemos, Michigan, led the Meijer AAA 16U team in scoring this past season with 26 points (10 goals, 16 assists).

Muzzatti also appeared in 20 total games with the Meijer AAA 18U team during the 2019-20 season, recording 19 points.

Muzzatti was drafted by the Muskegon Lumberjacks in the 2019 USHL Draft and also made his USHL debut this past season, appearing in two games.

Click here for a list of 2019-20 NAPHL tenders

A tender is a contract, of sorts, a player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that NAHL team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other NAHL team. Each team is granted ten (10) tenders, which include two (2) tenders exclusively used on players from the NAPHL - plus or minus any trades - which became active on Nov. 1. Tendered players are not eligible for the NAHL draft, which will be held on July 21, 2020.

Any relation to Loris Muzzatti, who played LW for us from '76-'80?

I recall wondering when Jason showed up at MSU, and both Loris and Jason are from Toronto. If there is a relationship, it is probably distant.

Muzzatti's father is Jason Muzzatti, former Michigan State and NHL goalie.

At 18 he's 6'4" and 200lbs give or take....projecting that out, by the time he lands in Troy, he'll be downright Cornellian in stature !! Doc D will be THRILLED !!! Cannot wait to see him raising h- - - in front of the net!

Already developing a rash from the excitement! Our coach seems to be favoring the larger boys and i could not be a happier camper. My only question is at 6'5" and 209 pounds now, will we have room for this mountain in the locker room? And he plays forward no less!! Now if only we can start playing soon - fingers crossed.

’01 F Danny Ciccarello commits to RPI for 2021

The Engineers add a Quebec native in Ciccarello, who is headed to the BCHL for his first season in the league this season.

Ciccarello played at St. Mark’s for the last three seasons, scoring a whopping 70 points in 29 games last season on 34 goals and 36 assists.

This season he’s going to play for the Salmon Arm Silverbacks once the BCHL season begins.

We had Ciccarello ranked as our No. 57 overall uncommitted prospect (among 99’s, 00’s and 01’s)

NZ scouts on Ciccarello: “Really stood out against LA because he played a heavy game. He checks in at six feet, 190 pounds and he uses every pound to his advantage. He is strong in puck possession but even more strong in delivering big hits in open ice. He isn’t the fastest player we saw in this game, but his crossover step does give him a nice edge coming off the wing. He charges hard to retrieve loose pucks and crosses the blue line with authority when he has possession. Was the most consistent offensive threat for the Lions in this game because nobody could knock him down.”
