RPI Recruit Thread 2019-20 (Part II)

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2019-20 (Part II)

FWIW, Espoo (Sertti) and Nummela (Nykänen) are only about 17 miles apart. They both played in the Blues system in Finland before coming to North America. As they are over two years apart in age, they were never on the same team, but they probably know each other. It has been mentioned before, but Sertti and Ottoville Leppänen (also Espoo) have played on the same team.

Leppänen retweeted Nykänen's tweet. https://twitter.com/Ovleppanen

Perhaps we have obtained the Finnish connection after all these years from Clarkson. Years ago they seemed to have a player or two from there on their roster almost every year. I really like that our coach does not seem to limit from where he is looking at players. Recruiting has gotten far more competitive over the years and they are finding that now they have to start looking at boys at far younger ages than they did many years ago.

Good point about Clarkson. We may be looking at boys at a younger age, but they show up at a later age.

Not really worth posting but we are getting Brooks' best-dressed player. I would rather get one of the first few. :)

I don’t have access to their insights but maybe Ralph can fill it in. Has their Rating gone up? They still list Altti ay 5’11” so we know that hasn’t been updated. He is now 3.25. It must have been changed at the same time since I checked around 4 PM. Still far from great as they state that only 9.98% of those rated 3.25 go D-I, almost 70% go D-III. https://www.neutralzone.net/mens/educational-blog-post/neutral-zone-star-ratings-player-rankings/

He also has icons for Stick-Handling Skill, Strength, Awareness/IQ, and Skating Ability. I will repost the recruit list with that information.

NZ has been spending less effort this year than a year earlier in rating college prospects. They are doing more NHL prospect reviews. Undoubtedly that is a greater source of income.

I am assuming that Neutral Zone regards their Star ratings as public because they often tweet them with committals.

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2019-20 (Part II)

The 16U Nationals which Chicago Mission 16 (Babich) will go to if they win their district this weekend has been cancelled along with the other national tourneys. (See the link in the tweet below.) As of now the district tourney is still on their schedule.

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2019-20 (Part II)

. . . I think we all know one very good former RPI player who made a successful jump directly from a Canadian school program to RPI.

Apparently no one knows this player? Ralph must know who I am referring to, but is too polite to jump in here. Maybe I threw people off with "very good former RPI player" instead of writing "one of RPI's all-time great players"?

Who is Monsieur Juneau?

So, with the apparent exception of Babich, no one will be playing this weekend. he won't be playing after this weekend assuming that Mission wins the district tourney.

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2019-20 (Part II)

He indeed played for Lévis-Lauzon, a Cegep (prep school).

Juneau claimed in an interview that the league was then similar in talent to the QMJHL, but he's probably being polite if you compare the NHL alumni from the two leagues. And I think Juneau had to be on the radar of major junior teams, but he and his parents valued educational opportunities.
