RPI Recruit Thread 2016-17 Part II

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2016-17 Part II

The USHL phase 1 draft is today (6 PM central time). No known RPI recruits can be taken because it is for 2001-birth players.

Bendorf, the final piece in the deal, is a 1999 birthyear with good size and potential. At 6-foot, 190 pounds, Bendorf plays a physical game and has been a prolific goal scorer in his junior career. In 2014-15, Bendorf was named the USPHL 16U forward of the year, scoring an outstanding 30 goals and 75 points in just 28 games for Team Comcast.<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Lumberjacks make huge splash on eve of draft, bring three forwards in from Tri-City <a href="https://t.co/IeASRX9nxN">https://t.co/IeASRX9nxN</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/GoJacks?src=hash">#GoJacks</a> <a href="https://t.co/r1Gs9bJbFz">pic.twitter.com/r1Gs9bJbFz</a></p>— Muskegon Lumberjacks (@MuskegonJacks) <a href="https://twitter.com/MuskegonJacks/status/859165335160803333">May 1, 2017</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2016-17 Part II

I will post any information, probably tweets, about RPI recruits taking in the Phase 2 USHL draft today starting at 8 AM central time. They may not be immediately when they happen since I will be out for a while starting at about 10:30 AM.

This site will give names as they are selected http://ushl2.rinknetcloud.com/2017/results.htm.

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2016-17 Part II

The Phase 2 USHL draft starts at 8 AM central time today. Any junior eligible hockey players not already on someone’s list is eligible. RPI has 11 known recruits (not counting Conger).

Ohrvall is Waterloo property and since he most likely is going to RPI in the fall, they probably won’t waste a spot on him.

<s>Bendorf is already on Tri-City’s roster and I assume they will keep him.</s> Well I was wrong about that. He is Muskegon property now. :)

Cameron is on Sioux Falls affiliate list and I strongly suspect that they are keeping him.

Payne and Harris are both 1996-birth players and have aged out of juniors. I think that we will see them in Troy in the fall.

That leaves Marshall, Tuliara, Babichuk, Cho, Stout, and Modry. Any of them could be drafted. Stout, like Harris and Payne, has already appeared in the RPI directory and I think he will be at RPI in the fall.

Modry was drafted last year and wasn’t protected. He could be drafted again, I think that he will stay in Wenatchee. That won’t stop someone from drafting him.

I would love to see Tuliara drafted as I have said before and play a year in the USHL before going to Troy. We will see.

Cho was drafted in the past. He could be drafted again, but my gut feeling is that either he will be in Troy in the fall or he never will be.

I think that Babichuk could be drafted if he has shown that he is interested in the USHL. I don’t think that we will seem him in Troy in the fall and most likely he will stay in the BCHL.

Hopefully Marshall will be in Troy in the fall. If he isn’t it probably means that he is no longer interested in RPI. It would be a significant loss. He could be drafted.

Cory Babichuk was selected in the second round, 22nd overall by the Bloomington Thunder. :)

I suspect he is interested since he was a high pick.

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2016-17 Part II

Cory Babichuk was the only currently known RPI recruit selected in the USHL phase 2 draft. :( FWIW it appears that a son of Kraig Nienhuis (RPI ‘85) named Nash Nienhuis was selected by Muskegon #127 and a son of Dennis Cesana who played a few games over several years at RPI in the late 1980s was selected #122 by Lincoln. He is also named Dennis. Both Nienhuis and Cesana are from the same towns as their assumed fathers. As usual there were players who are connected to former NHL players and teammates of current and future RPI players.

On Tuesday, the Georgetown Raiders lost to the Dryden GM Ice Dogs (SIJHL) 5-4 in overtime. Their record in the three-game round robin is 0-1. Austin Cho had no points or penalties. http://dhewitt.wttstats.pointstreak.com/boxscore.html?gameid=3100450

Cho's Dudley-Hewett Cup line is now 1-0-0-0-0.
His total is 76-10-42-52-64.

I assume that for the purpose of being one of the two teams to advance to the final an OT loss is better than a regular loss.

Edit: Yes 1 out of 3 points for an OT loss http://dhewitt.wttstats.pointstreak.com/standings.html?leagueid=255&seasonid=16851.

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2016-17 Part II

Edit: EO is tied for the lead in assists for the USHL playoffs. http://www.ushl.com/view/#/player-stats?sort=assists

https://waterlooblackhawks.com/2017/05/waterloo-black-hawks-preview-59/ :D

Ohrvall’s Helpful Contributions

Forward Emil Ohrvall has accumulated a team-high five assists during the course of Waterloo’s first five playoff games. The total ties him for the USHL postseason lead in that category. During the first two games of the Hawks-Musketeers series, the native of Sweden has had a hand in three of four Waterloo goals. Ohrvall’s playoff success is the continuation of a trend from late in the regular season: from the beginning of March through Game 60, Ohrvall notched eight assists in a dozen appearances.

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2016-17 Part II

On Wednesday, the Georgetown Raiders defeated the Trenton Golden Hawks (Host - OJHL) 1-0 (1-0) in a shootout. Their record in the three-game round robin is 1-1 (3 point). Austin Cho had a hooking penalty. http://dhewitt.wttstats.pointstreak.com/boxscore.html?gameid=3100453

Cho's Dudley-Hewett Cup line is now 2-0-0-0-2.
His total is 77-10-42-52-66.
Interesting that G’Town went with their backup goalie. It did work though.
