RPI Recruit Thread 2016-17 Part II

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2016-17 Part II

Interesting that G’Town went with their backup goalie. It did work though.

i assume that this is the reason:

BTW, he also played vs. Dryden on Tuesday.

On Thursday, the Georgetown Raiders defeated the Powassan Voodoos (NOJHL) 5-2. Their final record in the three-game round robin is 2-1 (6 points). Austin Cho had an assist. http://dhewitt.wttstats.pointstreak.com/boxscore.html?gameid=3100454

Cho's Dudley-Hewett Cup line is now 3-0-1-1-2.
His total is 78-10-43-53-66.

AC breaks his point drought. :) He had no points in the last 9 games of the OJHL playoffs and the first 2 games of the D-H Cup.

Trenton can't tie since their game tonight will go to a shootout if tied after a 10-minute OT, but anyway, Georgetown is at least in the 2nd place vs. 3rd place game tomorrow.

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2016-17 Part II

Cory Babichuk was the only currently known RPI recruit selected in the USHL phase 2 draft. :( FWIW it appears that a son of Kraig Nienhuis (RPI ‘85) named Nash Nienhuis was selected by Muskegon #127 and a son of Dennis Cesana who played a few games over several years at RPI in the late 1980s was selected #122 by Lincoln. He is also named Dennis. Both Nienhuis and Cesana are from the same towns as their assumed fathers. As usual there were players who are connected to former NHL players and teammates of current and future RPI players.

Nash Nienhuis is indeed Kraig's son. http://www.theobserver.ca/2017/05/02/nienhuis-goes-in-ushl-draft-to-muskegon

He'd be YALHD (yet another left-handed defenseman), but I hope Coach Dave at least sizes him up as a candidate. Connections to our storied path (if they can play) should be leveraged wherever possible. It still hurts to see JJ play, even as a spare part, in the NHL.
I have a concern that the league which he plays in is not considered good, but since there is interest in the USHL he must have talent. The fact that he is a dual citizen will mean that he won't take up an import slot in the USHL.

I agree that we should look hard at players linked to our past.

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2016-17 Part II

On Friday, the Georgetown Raiders defeated the Powassan Voodoos (NOJHL) 2-1. They will play in the finals for the Dudley-Hewitt Cup on Saturday. Austin Cho had cross checking, tripping, and roughing penalties. http://dhewitt.wttstats.pointstreak.com/boxscore.html?gameid=3100456

Cho's Dudley-Hewett Cup line is now 4-0-1-1-8.
His total is 79-10-43-53-72.

AC's second penalty was at an inopportune time. With the goalie pulled, Powassan was able to score on a 6 on 3 advantage but couldn't get the tying goal.
