Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2015-16

OK-we are back in sync. But we almost always are anyway. I do believe in teaching skating technique and some emphasis on power skating but as you mentioned, it is rare to see the Kelly Askews not just for us in Troy, but anywhere in college hockey. Not sure what the underlying gift is but some of the boys certainly have it. of course it is not the end all attribute. As many of us recall, Askew was perhaps the quickest and also the fastest around but often could not control that speed or the have the puck handling to go with it. Also, the speed is almost useless if it is not used properly by the coaches.
Over the years we have had quite a few speedy players whose speed who didn't do much with it, such as Askew whom you mentioned to Rojic a couple of years ago.

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2015-16

Turk: Almost always in agreement with you. Not so sure about speed and acceleration. Can be worked on? YES. Can be markedly changed? Not so sure. I think you usually can tell who the speed burners will be fairly early. We have had some in Troy (and certainly a couple now) but I am one of those that think some boys have it and some just do not. I do admit that you can see some improvement but I emphasize the word 'some'. I would classify this post as not very important but just a way for me to show that i am still alive and interested here.
I think a mix of speed and smarts is what we really all want ( i.e. Polacek). Cavosie, Murley, Pirri --- none of them ever had blazing speed, but they all sure knew how to find the twine. On the current squad, I'm excited to see how the Swede has bulked up and progressed. The kid always battles and seems to put himself in good positions to get pucks at the front of the net.

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2015-16

Cedar Rapids won a preseason game on Friday 6-4 over Dubuque. None of the team's tweets mentioned Jacob Hayhurst.

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2015-16

Thanks to herbst20, Hayhurst is not in tonight’s lineup.... https://twitter.com/herbst20/status/640274371039391744

Then who is number 20? :D

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2015-16

I might as well post this with the first regular season game of each team which I could find. Some teams, e.g. Cedar Rapids, still have exhibition games yet to be played. Also some players' numbers are undoubtedly wrong. I haven't checked the women's teams yet.

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2015-16

There is no mention of Manley in any of Estevan's tweets today, but they are very incomplete. https://twitter.com/estevanbruins

http://www.estevanbruins.com/news_article/show/551227?referrer_id=631321 .
Goals were scored by Ryan Duret from Jason Duret and Kaelan Holt, Lampman product Zach Paxman from Levi Barnstable, and Owen LaClare notched his second goal of the evening, with an assist being credited to Charlie Manley.
It sounds a bit like a computer-generated recap, but I don't think that the scorecard is on line.

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2015-16

Article say Topeka has 10 returners. Carlos isn one of them.

http://nahl.com/news/story.cfm?id=15299
Hmmm?...... The RoadRunners will have 10 players returning to the line-up, which does give them a solid veteran presence to start the season. They include forwards Cam Strong (27 point), Dominic Lutz (18 points), Yu Hikosaka (17 points), JB Baker (16 points), Beau Dommer (12 points) and Luka Maver (8 points), along with defensemen Tyler Hayes (10 points), Ryan O’Connor (5 points), Jack Kelly and (3 points) and Seth Kamrass (1 point in 4 games). “I think all of the forwards are capable of production and leadership, so it is tough to single anyone out. We are expecting all of them to help the new players and understand what it takes to be a RoadRunner. We like to play fast and up-tempo so that is something we will be working on and emphasizing right away,” said Kamrass.... http://nahl.com/news/story.cfm?id=15299
