Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2015-16

.....now to hunt down Babichuk.....pretty confident Fornaris will be with Topeka.

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2015-16

BTW, Babichuk is not on Sherwood Park's roster http://ajhl.esportsdesk.com/leagues/rosters.cfm?leagueID=3464&teamID=439960&clientID=1705. I didn't find him on any other AJHL roster either although some are incomplete, so he may be back with CAC. He also hasn't tweeted anything about this season https://twitter.com/thababs/with_replies?lang=en
Babichuk, as you know, was protected by Everett of the WHL last year (http://www.heraldnet.com/article/20140726/BLOG12/140729320) but he’s not in their camp this year so I guess that’s good news....http://smallatlarge.blogspot.com/2015/08/camp-rosters.html

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2015-16

The June 2015 USHR page was just made public. http://www.ushr.com/news/20150601

Jonathan Bendorf (#8 Freedom, L, 5-11/185, ’99) The USPHL U16 Offensive Player of the Year, Bendorf led the league in assists (45) and points (75) in only 28 games played. He is both tall and strong, has great puck possession skills and the ability to slow the game down. His speed and acceleration could use work, but he is strong on his skates and has next-level hockey sense. He was not as assertive here as we would have expected, but he certainly shines when the puck finds his stick in the offensive zone.

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2015-16

....dang RB. Just got in from mowing went thru the lists was about to post & you’re on it already.....hahahahah

Certainly nothing unexpected there. One thing worth noting is that CR has four imports in its list of 30. IIRC, they can keep three, but can keep four if at least one is a holdover. Two of the four are holdovers. That seems to indicate that the number of imports won't be a problem.

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2015-16

”speed & acceleration” two things that can be worked on. "Next-level hockey sense” you either got-it or you-don’t.
Turk: Almost always in agreement with you. Not so sure about speed and acceleration. Can be worked on? YES. Can be markedly changed? Not so sure. I think you usually can tell who the speed burners will be fairly early. We have had some in Troy (and certainly a couple now) but I am one of those that think some boys have it and some just do not. I do admit that you can see some improvement but I emphasize the word 'some'. I would classify this post as not very important but just a way for me to show that i am still alive and interested here.

....didn’t mean to imply that it would result in say, Oren Eiserman or Melanson speed, merely that it could be improved. I agree with you 100% that there is a limit. All the work would never make a Rabbani or even a Pirri into a speed demon that’s for sure.

OK-we are back in sync. But we almost always are anyway. I do believe in teaching skating technique and some emphasis on power skating but as you mentioned, it is rare to see the Kelly Askews not just for us in Troy, but anywhere in college hockey. Not sure what the underlying gift is but some of the boys certainly have it. of course it is not the end all attribute. As many of us recall, Askew was perhaps the quickest and also the fastest around but often could not control that speed or the have the puck handling to go with it. Also, the speed is almost useless if it is not used properly by the coaches.

Imports wont be a problem. One of the returning imports left camp on his own after having a disagreement from what I am told. 3 left on the roster but have heard another is skating with the team that doesnt show on the list.

Thanks for the clarification.
