RPI Recruit Thread 2013-14 (Part III)

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2013-14 (Part III)

Dillon — whose WHL rights are held by the Oil Kings, although he already has a scholarship to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for the 2015-16 season — just returned from that weekend combine in Chicago.

“I had the Chicago camp to focus on before and now I turn around and head to this one. It’s a lot to take in, but I’m excited,” he said of the Illinois event that drew 40 players from Europe, Canada and the U.S.

Missed both graduation and the prom.

I am beginning to suspect that he might go higher in the draft than predicted. From RPI's perspective, that's a mixed blessing.

From quoted post
Michael Prapavessis, LD, OJHL, 6'01 180 lbs Ranked 82 overall.

Very offensively skilled dman. Best attribute is high hockey IQ. Very adept passer with good vision. Comfortable with puck on stick when facing forecheckers.

From post
Prapavessis was coached by my buddy ( and a guy I used to coach with) he called Prap the smartest player he's ever coached and I agree with Prap being a very smart player. He will need to work on his shot to play PP in the NHL but he is going the NCAA route (unless and NHL team pushes him towards London) so he will have plenty of time to develop. Needs to add some physicality to his game but he is amazing with his stick defensively.

Unless Appert can quickly figure out how to become a bench coach, these MJ clubs will be waving some wads.

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2013-14 (Part III)

I hope that we haven't lost Evan Tironese. I did find it odd earlier that he wasn't in the directory.

Nine defensemen and 14 forwards next season. That means only two forwards but three defensemen sit each evening. Hopefully it also means that the five-forward powerplay is a thing of the past.

2 extra forwards :eek: At the rate we’ve lost them to injury the past few seasons seems like a huge gamble. As Ralph said, hope we didn’t lose ET or any (A.R.?) due to possible admissions.

AR was probably just a bad guess on my part due to the timing of his accepting an offer. I suspect that he will be in Surrey or Sioux City.

I have not seen anything about Tironese going elsewhere. My main worry is he might have not gotten through admissions. (Not that I know the slightest thing about his academic qualifications.)

I do have the feeling that Bell could play forward in an emergency.

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2013-14 (Part III)

turk,

You recently posted the fact that Gillespie, Melanson, and Nanne will be rooming together. It's also a bit odd that they put all three Americans together. I would think that the coaching staff would want to mix Americans with Canadians (and/or Swedes).

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2013-14 (Part III)

I did notice the trend late in the year(in the NHL) that many Teams were dressing 7 D-men. Perhaps SA feels comfortable with this group should that become necessary.

well, you do get 3 forwards together with the possibility of Bell, Praps and Wilson together with Liljegren rooming with Bubela?

I would think that is the case. There is a lot of quality in that group of nine although Bell does not have high level experience. (Then again I haven't seen him play.)

The problem is that you don't have four lines. Of course with all of the man advantages/disadvantages, perhaps the going feeling is that four lines isn't necessary.
