Jacob Hayhurst, F (Mississauga Rebels), 5-9, 155
OHL Cup Statistics: 4GP-0G-4A-4P
Blessed with fantastic feet that never stop moving, Jacob Hayhurst was a difficult player to contain creating havoc all over the offensive zone. His energy and will-to-compete sparked the Mississauga Rebels on several occasions and Hayhurst certainly improved his draft stock throughout the week. - See more at: http://thehockeywriters.com/inside-the-scouts-notebook-2013-ohl-cup-part-ii/#sthash.nijH8MWy.dpuf

Kingston Frontenac's draft choice last year http://www.kingstonfrontenacs.com/article/frontenacs-annouce-full-draft-summary
Tenth Round

Jacob Hayhurst, Left Wing, Mississauga Rebels, 183rd Overall

The five-foot-seven, 157-pound forward played for the Mississauga Rebels.

“Jacob was his team’s best player from December on,” said McKercher. “When we looked at all the reports on him the same words kept popping up: speed, speed, and more speed.”

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2013-14 (Part II)

I put Hayhurst as a 2015 recruit. I have no proof of that. In any case, he is no earlier than that. Perhaps he is penciled in as a replacement for JL.

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2013-14 (Part II)

<s>http://www.thescoutingreport.org/ojhl-uncommitted-97s
SOUTH DIVISION

LC Jacob Hayhurst | Toronto Patriots | 5.08 | 160

Hayhurst has been arguably the most impressive 16-year-old skater in the league this season as he’s had a tremendous offensive impact with 25 points in only 34 games, this of course taking into account that fact that he hasn’t even seen top-line minutes.

The diminutive centre is an excellent skater and shows a consistent ability to create off the rush using his quickness to beat defenders wide and create odd-man rushes. Hayhurst also has a great nose around the net and despite his small stature, he’s unrelenting and not afraid to incur physical punishment to make a play.

Drafted in the 10th round by the Kingston Frontenacs, Hayhurst has the offensive skill to play a top nine role in the OHL as early as age 17, but don’t be surprised if the NCAA isn’t the ultimate end-game for the Mississauga, Ont. native.

Turk got that one.

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2013-14 (Part II)

Enough descriptions of Hayhurst. It looks like another small player with speed. As a 17-year old, he could still grow, but he won't be a giant. We do need replacements for JL and Neal, but some size at forward is hopefully the next target.

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2013-14 (Part II)

Hayhurst retweeted a congratulatory post by an uncle Robert Powers https://twitter.com/Hayhurst12. I guess that makes it official. There is someone with the same name on the TLSP, probably a cousin http://ojhlsite.stats.pointstreak.com/playerpage.html?playerid=5235834&seasonid=11218 or more likely the same person and "uncle" isn't really the case.

Edit: Hayhurst has retweeted a couple of other congratulatory messages including one from a "brother" who is obviously not one. So "uncle" is probably also wrong. Also one from Judd Brackett.

It was driving me nuts that I knew I had seen Hayhursts' name somewhere, other than TLP boxscores. Now I remember....Top 10 Uncommitted list on right (scroll half way down page)....http://thescout.ca/web/index.php ......I had even linked Sean Lafortune's tweet earlier but didn't put it together, duh!

I should have posted this Tweet by Prapavessis last month when I read it, but I wasn't sure what it meant and then forgot about it. https://twitter.com/mpraps27/status/424002301632987136 Now it is pretty clear that Hayhurst was debating RPI vs. some other choice.

You know my feelings on this-we should be looking for a couple big boys at forward-without them we could be fast but we will not be able to play(as SA puts it) the Engineer Way. We are going to need a bit more size to play that hitting game he talks about so often.

Yes, I know your feelings. I personally think we need a mixture. That's what I was trying to say in the message that you quoted. Big players with speed are even better, but everyone wants them.
