Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2012-13

Watching what happened, and seeing this happen in the pros before, that was the correct call. He did not touch the puck, therefore the penalty shot did not begin.
It's actually amazing that he did not touch considering where he fell.

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2012-13

Perhaps it has something to do with skate sharpening? In the years at Delbarton he never seemed to be off his feet so much.(and with zero contact too)
I attribute it to nerves. :)

In this case it also could be the fact that he was skating on a section of ice that was recently cleaned whicle the rest wasn't.

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2012-13

This Melanson kid is gonna fit in well at RPI....cannot wait to see him fall on a puck in front of a wide open net.

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2012-13

had to have been added after the period was over....Cammarata was originally the only assist on the play. Good for CM.
It was added later. I think that it also will be his last point since he is apparently returning to SHA.

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2012-13

Interestingly, both Bourbonnais and Melanson are currently in the top 10 of the USHL in shooting percentage http://ushl2011.stats.pointstreak.com/scoringleaders.html?leagueid=49&seasonid=9358&sortby=spct. That means that they will fit in at RPI, by not shooting enough. :)
Funny you should point this out RB. I was looking at the SOG earlier when looking at the Points leaders in the USHL and thought the same thing about fitting in at the Tute.....http://ushl2011.stats.pointstreak.com/scoringleaders.html?leagueid=49&seasonid=9358 BTW, Jake Wood has 37 SOG (15 games) & Jimmy Devito has 14 in 14.

Either illustrates the point. I picked shooting percentage because that shows that they can score. Melanson definitely should shoot more. Even if his %age would go down a bit, it could still be quite good. Percentages about 20%, as both have, indicates that the goalies are saving less than 80% (ignoring ENGs) which indicates that they are well below SA's target of 91%.

On another topic, Parker Reno and Edina have their first game today at 5 PM CST.

Ralph you certainly do come up with some doozies. The one criticism of Melanson that i heard at Delbarton games from people we sat with (all much more knowledgable about hockey that i could ever be) was that he is just too darn unselfish. He sets up other players at the expense of giving up his own shot. It is almost like he does not want to be known as a puck hog for shooting all the time. We saw him give up what we thought were fairly open shots to pass often in the past few years. I would have loved to see him shoot more-but if we can find the right line mates for him who can finish-then this could be something very special (It certainly helped John Carter to have a set up man on his line:))

Don't get me wrong, we need players who can pass also, but our major need on offense in recent years has been finishers. JL seems to be getting there, but IMO that isn't enough. What good would we have gotten from Adam Oates if he didnt have the likes of Carter and Servinis to pass to? (Yes, I know he scored over 30 goals in 84-85, but that was before goalies had pads six feet wide. ;) )

I was just going through the stats and noticed that Melanson had a very high shooting percentage but didn't shoot much.
