Re: RPI Pros VI

Dolphins won yesterday, with Andrew Franks perfect on the day (22 and 42 for FG, 2 PAT). Ironically enough, the team they were playing (Eagles) have for a kicker his pre-season competition, Caleb Sturgis. And even more ironically, Sturgis missed a field goal, with the Dolphins winning by 1 point. Perhaps the Dolphins made the right choice for a kicker? ;)

No perhaps about it. Not only is he gaining more confidence in kicking field goals in the NFL, but his kickoff distances have been totally impressive. Looks like a potential long career ahead if he can stay healthy. :)

He has certainly not disappointed. he has missed a couple FGs and PATs but one FG attempt was from 63 yards and a coach would never ever attempt that if he did not think there was a chance to make it. He has top ten distances on his kickoffs and number of touchbacks but he has to be just a tad more consistent as a few have been short and a few have been returned further than they usually like to see. But when he gets air under them and his usual incredible hang time, no one returns much of anything against his leg.
I grew up with my football her being a kicker (Lou 'the toe' Groza) and have had a fondness for watching kickers ever since. Franks has an incredible amount of leg strength and if he can keep physically healthy and more important, mentally sound (the pressure and tension on kickers is incredible as so often the game is won or lost with a last second kick), he will not only be in the league a long time, he will be a much sort after commodity.

Pirri had a goal and two assists last night against the Devils for the first three point game of his NHL career.
He made a great pass for the Panthers first goal of the night.
