RPI Pick to Click 2016-17

lugnut92

Conductor emeritus
It's (just a little past) time to kick off another season of RPI Pick to Click!

Scoring and rules will be a little bit different this season (changes in bold), so here goes:

As always, this contest is open to anyone who wants to play, not just the RPI faithful. It can take as few as 15 seconds to make your picks each week so why not play!

In general, you will pick one player from each team for each RPI game. You can't pick the same player twice in a weekend, and the rules are slightly different for tournaments (I'll post those when it's actually time for a tournament).

Picks must be submitted (or finalized) by puck drop of the first game of the weekend. If a player you've chosen is injured during the course of the weekend, you may select another player if you let me know before the start of the next game. If you're not sure if you're allowed to make a change in your picks, make a new pick anyway and I'll decide whether or not you can make the change.

To keep everyone from picking the same person, the top two scoring forwards and top scoring defenseman (by hockey points, NOT PtC points) from each team will be ineligible for selection. Ties between top-scoring players will be broken by goals scored, ECAC points, ECAC goals scored, and finally seniority (hopefully we never go past that). This rule will not come into effect until a player has at least five points. Additionally, you may only select ONE goaltender per week.

Point Breakdown:
Forwards
Goal - 2 pts
Assist - 1 pt

Defensemen
Goal - 3 pts
Assist - 2 pts

Goaltenders
Quality Start - 2 pts (If you don't remember what that is, look here)
Shutout - 3 pts (Only to be awarded when the goalie plays the full game)
Goal - 10 pts
Assist - 4 pts

The designation for whether a player is at forward or defenseman will be determined on a game-to-game basis according to the box score at collegehockeystats.net.

The participant who earns the most points in a week will earn themselves a bonus point.

Finally, if for some reason you can’t get to the board to make your picks, feel free to contact me in another way. I’ll use the time stamp to determine if you beat puck drop. (One of) my email(s) is my USCHO handle at gmail. If you have my cell, you can text me. If you’re my friend on Facebook, you can message me there. Don’t make a habit out of submitting picks off-board, but I understand that emergencies happen.

Good luck and good picking!

It's the preseason for everyone, so we'll take on a dry run of sorts during RPI's exhibition match-up with the McGill University Redmen! Points earned this weekend will NOT count toward your total at the end of the season, this is just for fun and to get in the swing of things.

Picks must be in by 4:00 ET on Sunday.

You may NOT choose the following players for this game:
RPI: none
McGill: Mathieu Pompei

Re: RPI Pick to Click 2016-17

Well, at least you haven't noted it as the FlagDUDE08 rule...

RPI: Riley Bourbonnais
McGill: Louis-Phillip Guindon

Re: RPI Pick to Click 2016-17

For future reference, how is seniority measured? That is, is a senior rated higher than a junior, etc., or vice versa? Also, for that purpose, do we count ET, for example, as a freshman or a soph?

While we know the intricacies of RPI's students and their class status, I don't know those details for every team we face, so seniority will be defined by the class year as listed on the linked rosters (http://www.collegehockeystats.net/1617/rosters/___m). So, for example, Tironese and Wiffen are both sophomores.

Re: RPI Pick to Click 2016-17

It'll be tough for me to remember this while on the road for work the first month of the season, but I'll at least start out on the right foot.

RPI - Tironese
McGill - Kaminsky

Re: RPI Pick to Click 2016-17

I might as well get my picks in:

Maine: Matt Morris

RPI: Mike Prapavessis

Re: RPI Pick to Click 2016-17

Despite me not actually making the post until Friday morning, FlagDUDE08 and RPI fan 4 life were able to jump out to an early lead!

RPI's only tally on Friday came from defenseman Jared Wilson (no one). On the flip side, Maine was led by freshman Mitchell Fossier (no one), who put up a hatty in his first NCAA contest. Bully for him.
Saturday was a bit less lopsided, with Riley Bourbonnais (Ralph Baer, RPI fan 4 life) and Drew Melanson (lugnut92) scoring for the Engineers. The Black Bears had seven players with 2 PtC points on the night, including but not limited to Blaine Byron (1 G; FlagDUDE08, MavHockey14), Daniel Perez (1 G; vizoroo), and Cam Brown (2 A; RPI fan 4 life).

Results! (and link):
5 + 1 points
FlagDUDE08
RPI fan 4 life

4 points
Ralph Baer

3 points
engineerhockeyfan

2 points
vizoroo
lugnut92
