RPI Pick to Click - 2011-12

Re: RPI Pick to Click - 2011-12

I didn't find anything in the articles announcing him as a Colby head coach or an assistant for UNH, but I did find some interesting stuff.

Screenshot of Sean's archived USCHO thread "On This Day in College Hockey" Of course, it's more than two years old, so it's dead and gone :( It also doesn't exist in the Internet Archive Wayback Machine (as far as I could tell), so it really doesn't exist. Also, it doesn't actually say that Tortorella scored a goal, but if you already knew that factoid, then, congratulations, you found proof!

<img src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6102/6280864867_72873ce4bb.jpg">

MSU press release after Hobey Baker finalist Chad Alban scores on an empty net that mentions that Tortorella was the first NCAA goalie credited with a goal. (It also says that Alban was the first goalie to actually shoot the puck into the opponent's net.)

Trivia competition that mentions that Tortorella was the first NCAA goalie credited with a goal (Year 4, Week 23, 5-pt question)

On a completely unrelated note, I found a paper (PDF) that simulated the possible strategies of when to pull your goalie while trailing published by a statistics professor at Simon Fraser University and a professor at Université Laval. Like I said, completely unrelated, but it showed up while searching and was an interesting read.

Go to the Hockey_L archives http://lists.maine.edu/archives/hockey-l.html and search for Vasby (Tortorella might work too). You will find several messages from 1993 including from me.

Link back to the title post with details on scoring

RPI welcomes Ken Ralph and the CC Tigers to the unfriendly confines of the HFH. Last week, CC was ranked #4 in the (meaningless) USCHO.com pole. They then failed to get a win this weekend. They couldn't even pull out a tie! For those that are sarcasm-challenged, they didn't play this weekend.

RPI went into South Bend, Indiana and failed to produce on their opportunity to put a damper on Notre Dame's parade. They come back to Troy bruised and broken and with a 1-4-0 record. This pair of games is a return trip for RPI opening last season in Colorado Springs.

You may not choose the following players for this game:
Rensselaer:
F - Joel Malchuk
D - Nick Bailen, Pat Koudys, or Guy Leboeuf

Colorado College:
F - Jaden Schwartz
D - Mike Boivin

Statistics / Rosters:
Rensselaer: Statistics | Roster
Colorado College: Statistics | Roster

Friday:
CC: Joe Howe
RPI: Brock Higgs

Saturday:
CC: Rylan Schwartz
RPI: Zach Schroeder (I really want to put Haggerty here, but I have to keep the faith the young buck can pump one in..)

Re: RPI Pick to Click - 2011-12

OK, I feel stoopid, wrong thread and all. I got confused by all the cross-posting of PtC and RPI/Providence. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.
So, as not only were my picks in the wrong place, but one of them didn't travel, the new and improved picks are:

Friday
RPI - Josh Rabbani
CC - Gabe Guentzel

Saturday
RPI - Patrick Cullen
CC - Rylan Schwartz

Re: RPI Pick to Click - 2011-12

I'm about to head out to Troy. Still a number of posters who have not submitted picks yet.

Please do so.

Also, if you're submitting new picks, make sure to double-check them for ineligible players because I won't be able to for you.

Good luck! I'll see many of you tonight or tomorrow

Re: RPI Pick to Click - 2011-12

RedRocket and RHamilton, note that Neal is scratched tonight. Obviously you have him in for Saturday, but burgie doesn't allow changes after the Friday puck drop unless there is an extenuating circumstance, such as an injury or illness. A tongue lashing from Coach does not constitute an injury. :D

Per Kevin Beattie's twitter, Neal is not playing because he is banged up. He went 11-3 in the faceoff circle last weekend, no reason for him to be a healthy scratch.

Re: RPI Pick to Click - 2011-12

Just to let everyone know, I believe there is an 8 way tie going into the game tonight. Both Rylan and Guentzel got 4 ptc point last night and so every one who picked either of them is tied and none of those people pick either of the two RPI players who got points last night. And I know that more then one person can win on any given week but I think it is crazy how right now half the people who post here are tied for the lead.

Re: RPI Pick to Click - 2011-12

Well, if someone else can confirm Neal is injured, and I have the "ability" to change my pick, I'll take Angers-Goulet in substitution. If not, Neal it is.

It's actually a 10-way tie. 4 posters picked Guentzel and 6 chose Rylan. Cullen was the only RPI player to post any PtC points because Leboeuf is ineligible.

Fully two-thirds of the posters are tied for the lead heading into Saturday.

Since the "announcement" that Neal was injured was so close to gametime and no one knows / knew the severity of the injury, I have no issue with this.

So, if Neal is not in the lineup, your pick will change to AAG.

That means that RHamilton can also change his pick for tonight if he would like to. (Yes, I know that to is a preposition and NEASWAP holds, but I'm not going to rearrange my whole sentence for one word.)

McGowan instead of Neal.

Re: RPI Pick to Click - 2011-12

Sorry about the late update.

Lots of scoring this week as RHamilton was the only poster who failed to score a point and seven different posters (myself, cnor79, GRussinko, lugnut92, REDRocket, TuteScrooge, and vizoroo) picked up 6 points and got the all-important bonus point.

cnor completes his natural hat trick and takes a "commanding" three-point lead. lugnut jumps into a tie for second while there was plenty of shuffling throughout the rest of the pack.

The top choices for the weekend were R. Schwartz (cnor79, mackek2, Ralph Baer, REDRocket, RKarger, and vizoroo) / Guentzel (myself, GRussinko, lugnut92, and TuteScrooge) and Cullen (nobody) on Friday and McDermott (nobody) and AAG (cnor79, lugnut92, REDRocket, and vizoroo) on Saturday.

Re: RPI Pick to Click - 2011-12

Link back to the title post with details on scoring

The Tute sends their hockey players up to the cold, desolate, unforgiving wastelands of near-Canada to start the ECAC regular season.

The tomato-can-tested Clarkson (SUCKS!) Knights and their medieval partners, the Saints of St. Lawrence, take on the two Capital District teams and have the benefit of their home crowds behind them.

RPI may be a more healed bunch when they descend upon the North Country. Keep your eyes peeled for some injury updates throughout the week.

By an overwhelming majority, the people have spoken and have decided to continue to exclude the top players based on real points.

You may not choose the following players for this game:
Rensselaer:
F - Joel Malchuk
D - Nick Bailen or Guy Leboeuf

Clarkson:
F - Louke Oakley
D - Sam Labrecque

St. Lawrence:
F - Kyle Flanagan
D - George Hughes

Statistics / Rosters:
Rensselaer: Statistics | Roster
Clarkson: Statistics | Roster (beware of J. / M. Zarbo confusion)
St. Lawrence: Statistics | Roster (beware of M. / N. Armstrong; George / Gunnar Hughes confusion)
