RPI Pick to Click - 2011-12

Re: RPI Pick to Click - 2011-12

GRussinko cruised to a victory this weekend (just like RPI!), picking up a point from CJ on Friday to give himself his 8th win of the season and extend his overall lead to 8 points heading into the final week(s).

lugnut picks up another 8 points (just like last weekend) and takes over second place from hawthr / Ralph while Ralph falls down to a tie for 5th place with cnor. FlagDUDE continues his hot streak (he has the longest active "scoring" streak) and finally passes ehf for 10th place outright. My nine points were good for second on the weekend and had me leapfrog a couple of posters to move from 9th to 7th, but there is still a very large 6-point gap between myself and cnor / Ralph.

Once again, best of luck to everyone as the game nears its end for this season.

The top scorers of the weekend:
Friday:
RPI - Bergin's pair of assists (primary on the game-winner and secondary on RPI's third goal) (nobody) were worth 4 PtC points. Alternatively, you could have chosen Laliberte's 3 PtC point night (goal #5, primary assist on #3) (nobody), leaving yourself open to take Bergin on Sunday.
Clarkson - Tremblay's goal (cnor, REDaero, TuteScrooge, and vizoroo) was worth 2 PtC points.
Saturday:
RPI - Patrick Cullen (WaP's hero of the night) (myself, GRussinko, and lugnut) was a factor in all three of RPI's goals, scoring two himself and assisting on Lee's first-period tally. His 5 points were the most tallied by any eligible player any night of the series.
Still - Sexton's game-winning goal, along with his secondary assist on Clarkson's first goal and Boak's goal (Clarkson's 2nd) were both were 3 PtC points. Neither were picked.
Sunday:
RPI - Bergin scored 3 PtC points with his game-winning goal (nobody), but if you were smart, you picked him on Friday. So, the top options for Sunday were Leonard's assist (goal #3), Malchuk's goal (#3), Dolan's assist (#3), Haggerty's goal (#1) (cnor), Leboeuf's assist (#1), O'Grady's goal (ENG, #4) (GRussinko), and Merriam's win (myself, FlagDUDE, and lugnut).
Sucks! - Morley's assist on Labrecque's goal (hawthr and vizoroo) made him the only player worth a pick (since you should have already taken Tremblay for either Friday or Saturday). But, it doesn't matter because they all suck! :D

Link back to the title post with details on scoring

Road warriors! The Engineers win the first-ever playoff series against the K-ni-ghts of Clarkson held in Potsdam and now travel down Rte. 7 to face the vaunted <s>Dutchmen</s> *name redacted because it is hostile and abusive* of Union who won the Cleary Cup for the second year in a row, which must make them super-duper good, right?

sUCks made a clean sweep of the regular season against RPI, scoring 5 goals in each of the three games between the two sides while only giving up 4 total. Union won in the HFH 5-1, traveled up to Lake Placid and won 5-2 there, and then came back to good ol' Schenecta-terrible and put up another 5-1 decision.

You may not choose the following players for this weekend:
Rensselaer:
F - Brock Higgs
D - Nick Bailen

Union:
F - Kelly Zajac
D - Mat Bodie

Re: RPI Pick to Click - 2011-12

Congratulations to myself and REDaero on picking up the win to cap off the season. It was my second weekly win and REDaero's third.

Before I get to the rest of the recap, I'd just like to say that it was a pleasure to keep up with the Engineers and the ECAC as a whole by running this thread. I hope y'all had a bunch of fun, too.

GRussinko wins the whole shebang; he picked up another 5 points this weekend and ends up capturing the overall title by 10 points over lugnut who charged from 6th to 2nd over the last three weeks of the season. Many congratulations to GRussinko.

GRussinko also wins the award for winning the most weeks, setting a new record by earning 8 bonus points.

Ralph and FlagDUDE both racked up points in thirteen straight weeks - Ralph to start the season (which, when combined with his 7-week point streak to end the 2010-11 season means that he had picked up points in 20 straight) and FlagDUDE to end it, so we'll see how far he can run it to begin the next season.

The top scorers of the weekend:
Friday:
RPI - Tinordi's goal, Leboeuf's assist, Goulet's goal (REDaero), and Leonard's assist were all worth two PtC points. Bergin's assist on AAG's shortie was also worth two, but he was worth more on Saturday.
Union - Greg Coburn's game-winning powerplay tally (myself) was worth 3 PtC points.
Saturday:
RPI - Bergin's pair of assists were worth 4 PtC points.
Union - Kyle Bodie's goal and pair of assists and Kevin Sullivan's pair of goals were also worth 4 points.

Re: RPI Pick to Click - 2011-12

I'm going to go ahead and get a head start on next year by making my first pick now:

Saturday, October 6
RPI ENGINEERS: C.J. LEE

But in all seriousness, thank you burgie for running this all year. It was a bunch of fun to play (especially when C.J. started producing) and I look forward to playing again next season.

Not far I bet, as I did the exact same thing this year as I did last. Started slower than molasses, and then poured it on once I had more data. Expect the streak to end early.

Thanks for running this again burgie! It's been a lot of fun. Looking forward to it next year!
