Re: RPI Offseason Part II: Mindless Drivel.

It's funny, for D-I and NFL football, 50 yard FGs are like the minimum expected long for kickers.

Hence why it's a pleasant surprise in D-III. Of course, not everyone can be Janikowski, hitting 70-yard field goals in his sleep.

As a kid, I remember the NFL record at 56 yards for many years-held by Bert Rechichar. I kept expecting one of my idols-Lou "the toe"- Groza to better it but he never came close. 50+ yarders were rare then partially because the goal posts were set up right on the goal line-and if you missed, the opponent took over from the spot which was already midfield. When they moved the goal posts to the back of the endzone, the number of longer attempts rose substantially and of course there were a lot of stronger legs around. Having a consistent 50 yard field goal kicker can help the RPI team immensely. Often times in the past years we have lost close games-to Union and Hobart in particular-simply because we just could not convert a few extra 3 pointers when needed. I have no clue how the team will perform overall this year-we still have a very tough league schedule-Union and Springfield are always tough and Hobart is nationally ranked. But having been a student at RPI in the early to mid 60's, any winning season in football is appreciated. Actually, if you look back at those years, any winning football game is appreciated.:)

Its OK - last year we all joked about how my son went for 6 season tickets and didnt know what we were going to do with them all. My son, not to be outdone, did the hockey line and picked up 8 this year. Yes. 8. It coulda been worse....Col. Knowlton told him that he should get 40 and charge them all to my card, so I guess i should feel some sense of relief. And no, I didnt get an email either. Obviously WS has some juice with Sasha over there....

I may want to buy a couple of games off him, if they are available (seeing as how last year, they were). Not Freakout, obviously, but if I'm in the area, I'd like to take my girlfriend to some games.

I hope you at least warn her about your Peter Pan tight wearing ways when you go to games. ;)

She's well aware of SuperFlagDUDE, and even thinks they're hot (no joke; she JUST said that; actually she used a different word, but the censor doesn't allow it on here). But if by some odd chance I go to the Sacred Heart game and "make an appearance", SuperFlagDUDE probably wouldn't show up. We aren't breaking that out until the season is in full force (not to mention, extra warmth is desirable in the winter).
