RPI Off-Season Thread 2012 Part III: BYOB: Bring Your Own Bratwurst

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012 Part III: BYOB: Bring Your Own Bratwurst

I don't think our great Coach is going to name co-captains until they earn it. I think there was a perception in the first half of last season the team rested on the accomplishments of the year before. I have great respect for guys like Malchuk but I think others thought is was going to be easier than it was. I would not be surprised if Bailen gets an Asst Capt spot but I believe our great Coach is going to make everyone earn every thing. Congrats to CJ, great kid. His dad is a great guy. I'm expecting alot from these group of young men this year.

Of course he's free to do what he wants, but I don't agree with it.:p This team went on a tear late last season, knocked off CCT and gave Union all they could handle in their barn before their season ended. Between that run and practices this fall, he ought to know who he wants to lead his team...as I said, that just my two cents. I'll shut up now. :D

If you partake in the adult sodas, Im pretty sure you can kill a few hours and more at one of the watering holes in or around the arena between games.. :)
If I were to attend the Devs game, it would let out at about 4:15 -4:30...there MIGHT be one bar open downtown at 4:30 on a January Saturday afternoon.

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012 Part III: BYOB: Bring Your Own Bratwurst

In honor of Guy Leboeuf and Kathryn Schilter, today is 3 October 2012. There are 3 days until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 6 October for the start of next season.

That is the day that an exhibition game is scheduled.

Wolfs would be the best bet . The rest of the bars are either a few blocks down, or have closed recently, I.e Savannahs, Jillians, Pagliacccis.

Interesting article. Rotating assistant captains doesn't surprise me (i.e. no permanent A's). All the best to the team this year. :)

Aspy.......how dare Weaver ask this question of your..........Coach?

"Might this finally be a make-or-break season for Appert?";)

Well, it is kind of a somewhat valid question -- I really do think we have a great coach, but even with all of the talent we have been bringing in the last few recruiting classes, and seeing the games in action and how things are run by the coaching staff, it's still hard to argue with a losing record.

I'm hoping this will be a "make" season for him, and for the team. I think they're hungry and are going into the season with the attitude of proving something to everyone, or at least I hope.

Appert expects Bokenfohr to contribute right away. I guess he would be saying good bye to his golfing buddies.

I agree. My eyes glaze over reading thsee two articles...it does seem like more of the same coach-speak cliches. I know he has to say it, but it just goes down hard. "Not sure how good we are, need to learn what it takes to win", etc. Is it me, or is the first we're hearing coach calling out last years seniors in particular as having had something resembling attitude/work ethic issues? In any event, I'm not sure you accomplish anything by being that specific with the critiquing.

Bottom line - sooner than later - they need to play to the potential we all think they have. Appert has done an outstanding job of recruiting, revitalizing the facility, re-connecting with the hockey alumni and with fan outreach. The one job left incomplete is hanging a bunch of W's on the wall.

Could not agree more. It is time to get past the fact that SA is a wonderful recruiter and an incredible asset to the program. It is time (and probably has been for a while now) to show that he is a good bench and strategic coach who can mold his teams into ones that win more and lose less. The honeymoon has been over for some time.

Four things make a good college hockey coach: Good recruiting, good player development, good community involvement, and good bench presence. I'd argue Seth has about 2 3/4 of these elements - the first, the third, and 3/4 of the second. Wish he weren't still growing on the fourth and even he would probably volunteer that he's got to start showing some solidity on it, but it's not enough right now. I see the potential, it's up to him to grab it.

10 years without advancing to the ECAC semis is unacceptable. The 2011 run to the NCAAs was a step in the right direction, this year's team overall needs to be an improvement over last year's.

Thatisall.

Agree almost completely. 100% on the first and third category. I would give a lower grade on the second but not by too much (would like to see the boys have better years more often as they become juniors and seniors) and agree totally on the 4th category. It is time! (as Sean Connery says at the beginning of the Hunt For Red October).:)

New post from WaP, "Know Thyself". He analyzes our team in the same fashion as everyone else in the Know your Enemy series.

http://www.withoutapeer.com/2012/10/know-thyself-rpi.html

One question-do we get to celebrate getting into the 1000 win club with 21 more wins (total years played) or with 46 more wins (modern era only)? I wonder what the number would be if we include all the games played that are now being counted as exhibitions because they were against Canadian teams?
