June 6-One of the most important and memorable days in US (and World) history. I sometimes wonder how many of the younger generation even know what it signifies?

The Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial over Omaha Beach is one of the most sobering things I have ever seen. I went with my French class when I was 12, and I'm pretty sure it was the first time I realized what that day really meant.

O'Grady had surgery on hip this week. Believe he will be out 3 to 4 months but not certain if I heard right.

Today is 7 June 2012. There are 121 days until RPI's next game.


This is based upon 6 October for the start of next season.

That is the day that an exhibition game is supposedly scheduled.

In the Cafe, I posted FDR's national radio address from June 6, 1944. As you mention it, it is worth reposting here:

Almighty God, our sons, pride of our nation, this day have set upon a mighty endeavor, a struggle to preserve our Republic, our religion, and our civilization, and to set free a suffering humanity.
Lead them straight and true; give strength to their arms, stoutness to their hearts, steadfastness in their faith.
They will be sore tried, by night and by day, without rest until victory is won. The darkness will be rent by noise and by flame. Men's souls will be shaken with the violences of war.

I am not aware of any family that was not affected by WWII. My father and three of his brothers were in the service (one died overseas, another was an advance scout for Patton); three of my mother's brothers served as well. What I found most striking growing up is that none of them ever wanted to talk about it. It was a true effort of national unity, for four long grueling years.

I am not aware of any family that was not affected by WWII. My father and three of his brothers were in the service (one died overseas, another was an advance scout for Patton); three of my mother's brothers served as well. What I found most striking growing up is that none of them ever wanted to talk about it. It was a true effort of national unity, for four long grueling years.

There were some articles in the 40's, I would assume from a paper in this area (though it MAY be the Corning area), about how my grandfather and great-uncle (that would make them brothers) were reunited on two separate occasions in Europe during the war.

Thought that occurred to me recently: anyone think that if RPI has another toilet of a regular season like they did this past one, that Appert will be shown the door? I know he's done a lot of good things for this program, but sometimes it's hard to see past a losing record and one of the worst regular seasons in program history... not trying to be pessimistic, but curious as to everyone's thoughts.

I know he's done a lot of good things for this program, but sometimes it's hard to see past a losing record and one of the worst regular seasons in program history... not trying to be pessimistic, but curious as to everyone's thoughts.
I don't know, but I don't think so. There was gradual improvement during the regular season.

Perhaps, I will be shown the door if my thread titles don't improve. :D

No, my point here is that if you take the entire body of work into consideration, there unfortunately has been, at a high-level view, more down than up when it comes to the boiled-down results.

In other words, it's not that I'm saying this past season is the only reason he'd be shown the door (or any of the rest of the coaching staff for that matter). I'm talking about everything summed up. All just speculation of course :)

I tend to agree RB. Anything is possible, but the team clicked late in the year and made an improbable playoff run - including giving Union everything they could handle --in their barn. There is every reason to expect a marked improvement in the team play to start next season. All of the youngsters are a year old/wiser and haveone playoff run under their belts. If this is not the case, and they start the season poorly, the comfort level in Troy may change.

Other teams have had three goalies in the past. SLU has had more. You and I and probably most others think that two and a walk-on is ideal, but other things can work too.

OTOH, last year we had seven defenseman with six typically in the lineup, and one got up and left, so these things do have to be handled correctly. :)

If anything, three goaltenders means we'll be solid at that position because of the competition for ice time. We also don't have to put all our faith into one guy (like with York in 2010-11, and when he had his concussion, that pretty much led to our meltdown that season).

My guess would be highly doubtful... considering the school just gave him a big six or seven year contract extension after the 2010-11 season.
