Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012: An Off-Season to Be Optimistic

It was a good evening with lots of laughs at a table I was at with; AspyDad, Bill, troyboy, JL, Bo Dolan & Josh Rabbani.

As always my friend, it was great breaking bread with you. Great having JCrawford with us too. The other poster there was Babo with Hubster in tow.

agreed about the, " Best Defensive & MVP Awards"...wouldn't have been my picks. It was great seeing; Allen York, Eric Burgdoerfer, Matt Angers-Goulet along with some " old timers"; Kirk MacDonald, Kevin Broad, Scot Basiuk. For me the biggest news was that Jeremy Coupal will be taking a volunteer coaching position with Bemijii St. It's looking like Mike Bergin might be playing over-seas this fall. He just got his passport & is in negotiations with a European team, he's also still in negotiations with Dallas though. Lips were sealed on the plans for Jake Wood as far as where he'll play this fall. I didn't ask about Melanson after that. Richard Manley is Charles' cousin not brother. Patty Cullen is pretty certain he'll be in SC next year with obvious hopes to move up to the "A". Patty Koudys isn't certain, at least he wasn't saying, where he'll play just yet. It was a good evening with lots of laughs at a table I was at with; AspyDad, Bill, troyboy, JL, Bo Dolan & Josh Rabbani. The boys will be back for the Aug.11th golf tourney & begin Capt.'s Practice

It was good to meet you and the golf outing is actually on Monday August 13th. I confirmed that with SA after I went to put it into my calendar and saw the 11th is a Saturday. It was a real nice time and from what I understand the players vote for the awards so they must have felt Bergin was worthy of those two awards. Although I do not know if the coaches trump the players votes. I tried my hardest to get it out of PK where he was going to transfer to but he would not give it up.

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012: An Off-Season to Be Optimistic

Today is 6 May 2012. There are 153 days (5 months) until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 6 October for the start of next season.

That is the day that an exhibition game is supposedly scheduled.

Thanks for the reports on the banquet. More are certainly welcome.

Turk181, thanks for attempting to find out where Wood is going.

I'm not sure I agree with either of Bergin's wins. Nothing against him, but he wasn't our best defender, and he certainly wasn't our MVP. I would have to pick Malchuk for best defensive player (or maybe Leonard if the winner had to be a D-man) and Higgs for MVP. Just my opinion.

I would agree with Leonard for best defensive player, but for MVP I'd pick Malchuck or Angers-Goulet for all the time they spent doing a fantastic job on the kill.

According to a fabulous person on RPISPORT-L that used to post here, Nick Bailen beat out AAG by 0.01!

That is correct. While they both had 4.0 last semester NB overall was 3.91 and AAG was 3.90. Smith was not far behind at 3.87 and I believe it was said overall as a team was 3.25.

That 3.25 is impressive. I would be even more impressed if it was our team Goals Per Game stat instead.;)

I certainly agree with your second statement. The first has to be put in the context of whatever the average is for all students at RPI. Does anyone know what that is now?

2-3 years ago it was in the range of 3.05-3.10. I don't know what the current average is.

I look at it in comparison to what the number would be for the average sports team in NCAA Division I sports. I would like to know what the averages are for other hockey teams in Division I. I have a feeling that the averages for Basketball and Football teams in Division I would not even come close.

Aren't the averages for D-I basketball/football close to BAC levels?

Very true Doc. Especially if UConn and SU hoopsters were the samples... Last I checked UConn was on the verge of being banned from the post season in 2013, thanks to their abyssmal (pathetic) academic performance. Although it appears the ever-spineless money grubbing NCAA will apply a loop hole to save Calhoun's "students".

Ditto on the reports. I've managed to achieve a new level of cluelessness... I had no idea the banquet was being held this past weekend.:D

Men's basketball; the women have something like a 92% graduation rate.
