RPI Off-Season Thread 2012: An Off-Season to Be Optimistic

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012: An Off-Season to Be Optimistic

Didn't mean to create any confusion, just that I would love to see a BC/RPI game but in 2013 my son would have graduated. Oh, he plays for BC, not RPI just to be sure!

Ralph.. here's the link: http://bostoncollege.rivals.com/showmsg.asp?fid=1312&tid=172785951&mid=172785951&sid=1007&style=2
an amazing accomplishment for a young man who was a walk-on. Could a letter on the sweater be in his future.

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012: An Off-Season to Be Optimistic

I noticed that Jeremy Coupal is a member of Phalanx, I assume for his work organizing the club team. Trivia question: Who was the last previous varsity hockey player to be a member? (No fair looking at Phalanx's website.)

Jake Morrissette.

If Bergin's sticking around for his redshirt year, I think that'll answer your question. ;)
just a thought...could Bergin be waiting for June 1st when he'll become an UFA? Perhaps some other team has shown serious interest....more-so than Dallas.

You must be reading my mind.

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012: An Off-Season to Be Optimistic

No.

Yes. I assume that he did something on campus other than play on the hockey team. Do you happen to know what? BTW, previous to him was Joel Laing unless I missed someone while scanning the list.
From the alumni list:
Sage Foley 1420
Joshua Greenman 1421
John Kennedy 1422
Kelly Lottman 1423
Brian Michalski 1424
Tiffany Milano 1425
Michael O’Keefe 1426
Gina Paolillo 1427
Nihar Shah 1428

Is that a different John Kennedy?

Edit: http://www.rpi.edu/about/inside/issue/v5n7/phalanx.html That is definitely the JFK from the hockey team. :) He and Coupal were both inducted last year according to that article.

Mea culpa, although I could say that he was not inducted before Coupal. :p

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012: An Off-Season to Be Optimistic

At least in my senior year, they introduced the newest Phalanx members during one of the intermissions of a game, and I remember Jake out there in uniform for that. Recent pep band conductors Dan Schwarting and Steve Malinski are also on that list.

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012: An Off-Season to Be Optimistic

Thanks.

FWIW, the message doesn't consider the possibility of UConn joining the HEA in 13-14 leading to a 22-game HEA schedule.

I doubt UConn will join that quickly. They should recruit some scholarship classes first to build up the program while they improve the facilities. Assuming they started by giving out 5 or so per year they'd be under the Atlantic Hockey limit for at least a couple of years. With kids committing so early to colleges it will be hard enough to switch on the "we've got scholarships" message at this late date and get competitive HE-quality classes entering in 2013 and 2014. 2014 is probably the earliest that it would make sense to step up and 2015 would be even better but HE might not be willing to wait that long.

You did miss one between Laing and Morrissette, Ralph.

Sondra Sherman?

I should add since Tim Heiman's name was mentioned that Tiffani Milano of RPI-TV could also be considered as having a hockey connection.

Good catch...I also missed Sondra. But there is another. Hint: captain for two years.

I'm in there, if you want to consider that a connection :p (Was inducted in the same group as Morrisette)

Very true...without UConn (what BC fans would prefer), the league schedule would be twenty league games (2x10 teams) for the eleven HEA teams. That would give fourteen OOC games for BC and thus would leave room for a BC/RPI tilt as part of a MSG doubleheader. All conjecture at this point...but isn't that the whole point of these boards?:D

And if anyone saw my son's interview on FOX, he gave major props to RPI and particularly Matt Murley. He had his formative years at the Field House watching Tapper, Gardiner, Laing, Sheperd, Cavosie (x2), Pothier, St. Hillaire, and many many others. And always begging for busted sticks and prized pucks! He'll never not slap a kid's hand as he enters or leaves tha rink...he knows what it's like to get some leather and the Engineer hockey team always obliged. OK, you twisted my arm, here's the URL: http://www.fox23news.com/mediacenter/local.aspx Go to local sports videos...NCAA hockey (Patch Alber).

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012: An Off-Season to Be Optimistic

Two thumbs up for Patch. Glad we could be a small part of his story.

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012: An Off-Season to Be Optimistic

Today is 13 April 2012. There are 176 days until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 6 October for the start of next season.

That is the day that an exhibition game is supposedly scheduled.

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012: An Off-Season to Be Optimistic

Shameless solicitation time:
I'm in Writing For Classroom and Career, and the last essay of the year requires us to propose a solution to a problem. The problem I have chosen is that of the missing stage, something I know you all have plenty of opinions about. In order to demonstrate that my problem is "significant," my professor has suggested that I create a survey with which I can poll a knowledgeable population of RPI fans. So, if you have the time to answer 10 super easy questions, I would greatly appreciate it if you would click this link and respond to my survey. (Yes I know that Survey Monkey sucks, but it's quick and easy.) Thank you all for your time and such.
