RPI Off-Season Thread 2012: An Off-Season to Be Optimistic

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012: An Off-Season to Be Optimistic

There's been talk about what the Ivy League schedule would look like if the six Ivies seceded from the ECAC to form their own six-team league with its own automatic bid.

What if that happened and the other six ECAC schools stuck together?

The good news is that the ECAC, presumably, would get an automatic bid.

But then you have to work out a schedule.

My guess is that the ECAC would adopt a similar 20-game league schedule, each team playing two at home and two on the road against each other team.

Think about it - TWO North Country trips every year.

If we were to poach the scholarship schools of Atlantic and RIT, and assume Q-Pac went to HEA, there's an easy 20 game schedule:

Travel partners:
RMU - Mercyhurst
Niagara - Canisius
RIT - Colgate
RPI - Union
Clarkson - SLU

Play each travel partner home and away (16 games), and then a home-and-home (or two in one location, two in the other) with your travel partner twice for a total of 4 games (yes, I realize this schedule is IMBA, but this is from a suggestion from that Schenecta-dude with the radio show basically saying RPI and Union should have more in-conference games). That'd make for 14 NC games, only two more than we have to fill now.

Of course, since we won't have to play an OOC vs. Union this way, there are three more OOC games to be filled. :D :p

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012: An Off-Season to Be Optimistic

Ok - seeing as how I'm in RPI hockey withdrawal, I'm heading to Florida next week to cope.

As it happens, I won't be far from where the Florida Everblades play - and they will be on a homestand. The AC for the 'Blades is some guy named Brad Tapper -- not sure who he is, but I'll have to Google him.

It just so happens that the South Carolina Stingrays will be in town, and some guy named Cullen is playing for them... Following the Rays, a team from Gwinett, GEORGIA comes to town (USA not Russia. Who knew they had frozen ponds in Georgia OR Florida?) As it turns out, The Gladiators have a guy named BRUTLAG playing for them. Dunno who he is, but I hear he's playing very well.

As you may have guessed, I'm looking forward to Florida...I might just pack an RPI jersey !!! :p:D If I have time, I might take in a baseball game or two...:D

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012: An Off-Season to Be Optimistic

You read my mind. I too was watching & couldn't believe the ineptness of the officials. Even the announcer made a comment about the big production of the faceoffs.
I've said it all season, and said it again at CCT and Union. They are completely incapable of conducting a clean faceoff. The pre-drop sermons are endless and fruitless. I suspect that ECAC coaches are now sandbagging and sending out their 2nd FO guy to enter the circle first, knowing that the odds are better than even that the kid will get tossed.

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012: An Off-Season to Be Optimistic

Today is 18 March 2012. There are 202 days until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 6 October for the start of next season.

That is the day that an exhibition game is supposedly scheduled.

If HEA takes UConn though you could probably add a eastern team like HC to be a travel partner for QU. The womens league would have 10 teams, six from ECAC, Niagara, Mercyhurst, Robert Morris from the CHA and RIT whos bringing their D3 womens team up to the D1 level in the next couple years.

The ECAC didn't take HC when UVM left because of their facilities. Has anything changed since then?

Wasnt the fact that they didnt want to upgrade the womens program from D3 to D1 part of the reason? If were talking about adding CC, RMU and MU, I figured HC might as well get thrown in the mix. I believe their facility is right on par or better then the other three schools I mentioned. If all this does actually happen someday, Id prefer the six non-ivys stick together, drop the ECAC name/management and just add RIT and Niagara for a smaller 8 team league. Maybe bring in Joe Marsh as commisioner as well.

Even Mike Milbury commented on the puck drop in last nights HE championship and the effect it has on the game.
I hope someone was listening.

That probably was also true.

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012: An Off-Season to Be Optimistic

Ask flag dude if my info is reliable

Don't bring me into your arguments. ;)

How long does the MBA take given the 4 years worth of undergraduate management studies? Don't include the aforementioned 4 years in your answer.

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012: An Off-Season to Be Optimistic

Just a shout out to the RPI TV crew for televising the ECAC playoffs when no one else would man up and do it. It really says something about the ECAC heirarchy when one of the league team's student run TV crews does a better job than the rest of them. Appreciated the good camera work and overall professional effort!
