RPI Off-Season Thread 2011 Part II: The Bryce is Right

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2011 Part II: The Bryce is Right

Curious that the league home game against Union is on a Tuesday night, making for 3 games in 5 nights for both teams

Given the rest of the schedule, holidays, when students are around, etc., I'm not sure there was really much of a better spot for the game. Sure, there's the bye week and it could have been later, but perhaps they want the time off to re-tool. I don't know if there are any league rules regarding bye weeks (doubt it, but I don't know for sure).

Looking back, we had the league game with Union at HFH on a weeknight two years ago (December 9th 2009, right after Colgate/Cornell, it was a Wednesday). There was also a similar setup with our bye week when we played at Niagara for our 3rd game in 6 days (just us, of course). We could also look at when we had a Harvard game rescheduled for the Beanpot in the 2008-09 (Tuesday game was first, but still, 3 games in 5 days, but once again, just us).

Looking solely at the men's schedules, the weekend of the 18th-19th would've fit. However, there are women's games against Wisconsin on the 18th and 19th at the HFH. My guess is that the Union academic schedule played a factor in when this game was scheduled - their last day of fall classes is November 15th, and their exams start on the 17th.

That would certainly explain why we usually have a bye week on that week...

Although we don't necessarily follow the same thing, as we've played NC games (as well as exhibitions) during our finals week... I seem to remember two of our Miami series being on that weekend, as well as the USA WJC game last year...

When you have two exam periods during the hockey season (as Union does - 11/17-11/22 and 3/13-3/16), I'm sure you'd want to try to avoid having games during both of them. Arguably, the March exams are after regular season, but playoff games could happen then.

Today is 7 July 2011. There are 86 days until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 1 October for the start of next season.

That is the day that an exhibition game is supposedly scheduled.

Maybe I will go watch.

The last time that I went to the Kettler Capitals Iceplex to watch someone connected to RPI was to see that Tinordi brothers several years ago, and neither dressed because they were suspended. Since then I was there for the 2009 USCHO posters game.

Guys is it safe in here to hide from the super conference talk and crazies posting elsewhere about how college hockey is doomed....

Not unless Notre Dame stays in a western league...

I feel your pain, though. I need a bottle of Jack just to get through the thread.

No word about Bailen being at Leafs camp, but the article had this to say about Jerry D, inlcuding quote from their Dir. of Player Dev., Jim Hughes:

But Jerry D’Amigo, an up and coming winger a year ago, who sought to speed up his career by leaving school at RPI for the Kitchener Rangers, was not as dominant as hoped.

“He’s made some jumps forward and taken some backward,” Hughes said. “We’re hopeful for all our kids, though some grow faster than others. It’s a mental mindset. He’s got the skills, he just has to keep working on the mental side. He’s got to work and play, have a longer leash and be allowed to make mistakes.

I had similar feelings about impending doom back when the HEA was founded and RPI decided not to go that way. This was despite the fact that the 'Tute was buiding toward a national championship. Thankfully, there was no USCHO where my thoughts would have been fed by those of others. I even wrote a letter to RPI stating my opinion on the matter (favoring going to HEA), probably the only time in my life I have ever done that.

The situations are, of course, not idenitcal, but there are similarities.

Notre Dame is still the pivot here. If they decide to take Hockey East up on their offer, the superconference starts to look extremely petty, since it would seem to have, at a maximum, two CCHA teams in it, which they could instead bring into the WCHA instead of dumping WCHA teams.

If Notre Dame goes to Hockey East and the superconference goes ahead anyway, I can't underline enough how important it would be for RPI to at least inquire about becoming #12.
