RPI Off-Season Thread 2011 Part II: The Bryce is Right

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2011 Part II: The Bryce is Right

I wonder what score would be acceptable. When my daughter was accepted, she was at the low end of the SAT scoring at 1240. But she was an athelete and a legacy as her brother graduated from RPI.
As she has since got a BS and MS from RPI and is two years into a PHD program at Yale, I don't think the low SATs was indicative of her scholastic ability.
I am sure that Kasdorf will be accepted as long as he doesn't come in with a ridiculously low score.

EHF: i suspect that some students are late bloomers who were just not ready for the SAT when they were younger. There are lots of stories of students who did not do very well(albeit it not all that poorly either) on their SAT but put it all together and did very well in school. I am one of those that still feels that uniform testing like the SAT is a valuable tool for evaluating students. But it is not and should not be the only evaluation used. Your daughter may well be the perfect example of why you have to look at the entire picture. Just my 2¢

Your experience at Disney World must have helped you get in. :)

I got the Disney internship while I was at the Tute, although they didn't accept the credit from the classes that Disney offered while down there. I highly recommend it for anyone that wants to do the college program in the future.

Today is 27 June 2011. There are 96 days until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 1 October for the start of next season.

That is the day that an exhibition game is supposedly scheduled.

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2011 Part II: The Bryce is Right

I know I'm not going to be able to catch any of the remaining games. :( Hopefully he impresses while there.
that's too bad...was hoping you'ld be able to catch a game or two and come back with your impressions.

The only reason I'd take off work for anything related to RPI Hockey is if the RPI Hockey team itself (men's or women's) is playing. I may have been able to make Sunday's game, but that was in the past, and Field Day wiped me out as it is. :(

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2011 Part II: The Bryce is Right

Great news on several counts. Caps are VERY deep on the blue-line and would seem to be unlikely to be in a position where they want to rush Koudys to the pros. Hopefully they see a lot of Brian Pothier in him and recognize how 4 years of college can be immensely helpful to a player's NHL success.

I know you're aware KN, but just to clarify - perhaps for those younger fans here - Potsie made his NHL debut with Atlanta, with stops in Ottawa, Washington and Carolina (and a few AHL towns mixed in) before heading to Europe....Just wanted to make sure the next generation knows their RPI history. :D

ummm.... Does this mean Kasdorf's definitely coming in the fall? Not that I really am dying to know and don't intend to soil anything in anticipation, but given the rules regarding recruits....

Pretty sure Ed wrote "either" this fall or 2012....so there was no definitive statement for you to question. The Winnipeg article mentioning his awaiting SAT results appears to be the reason we don't yet know which keeper we'll see this fall.

I guess I won't look for you at the golf tourney...

From USHR:

-- 6’1”, 170 lb. LW Alex Rauter, a 6/17/94 birthdate who played for the North Jersey Avalanche Under-16 Team last winter, stood out for his pure scoring ability. Rauter, who will be heading to Choate as a junior this fall, has a quick release, can pick the corners, and understands how to get in position. Princeton, RPI, and Notre Dame are all said to be keeping an eye on him

Good catch Bothman. Teammate of Drew Melanson.

My basis for the question was Coach Appert's comment. Paragraph 7: http://www.troyrecord.com/articles/2011/06/25/sports/doc4e06abf82f123299748482.txt

As for that golf outing, I can't play golf. Yet.

While they probably know each other, they are born in different years and don't appear to have ever been teammates on the same Avalanche squad. See http://www.atlantichockey.org/player_information.php?playerid=103239&seasonid=15 and http://www.atlantichockey.org/player_information.php?playerid=315. Melanson played HS hockey for Delbarton last year.

BTW, didn't H****y play for Choate? ;)

Delbarton has been an incredible program for kids heading into the NCAA. We have had a number of NJ boys do the same down here in Central Jersey notably from Brick and Toms River South. I have seen one kid down here who is a shoo in for playing Division I eventually. Hope our coaching staff has had their eyes open for this area of NJ. We have some very competitive teams that are ranked highly in the state.

Since the dean of the recently elevated School of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Yale (it was called the Faculty of Engineering or a similar second tier designation until a few years ago) is an RPI alum ('81) they probably have a high level of respect for successful graduates of America's original engineering school. They've put an awful lot of resources into engineering in the last decade and, not surprisingly, promoted it to full status in the university virtually simultaneously to Harvard taking the same action. Now if they can come up with nearly two centuries of engineering history and two NCAA hockey championships (actually, one more for Harvard), those universities may actually make something of themselves.
