Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2011 Part II: The Bryce is Right

It seems that historically Boston and Washington have taken a liking to RPI players. I wonder if there is a readon for it or just the case of a small sample size.

Perhaps an awful question, but is there any relation between Boston GM Peter Chiarelli and RPI legend Frank Chiarelli?

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2011 Part II: The Bryce is Right

The difference is not really significant but at #157 Kasdorf was picked before York who was #168 and Marsters who was #165.

Likewise, between Washington GM George McPhee and former RPI defenseman Mike McPhee?

Pete is Frank's son. However, most RPI players that Boston has had (Oates, Juneau, Carter, ...) were earlier.

Koudys to the Caps. :)

Great news on several counts. Caps are VERY deep on the blue-line and would seem to be unlikely to be in a position where they want to rush Koudys to the pros. Hopefully they see a lot of Brian Pothier in him and recognize how 4 years of college can be immensely helpful to a player's NHL success.

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2011 Part II: The Bryce is Right

I am a bit more concerned (strictly from a short-to-medium-term prospective) about Kasdorf going to Winnipeg. It is an excellent opportunity for him to go to his hometown team, but I wonder if they might be in a position to put more pressure on him to jump early than your average NHL franchise.

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2011 Part II: The Bryce is Right

None that I have ever heard mentioned.

They are only 2 years apart and both players embraced the NCAA route despite surely having other options. However, George is from Ontario while Mike is from Nova Scotia.

A drink or two in honor of these picks will be happening tonight at the wedding I am going to. Congrats to Pat and Jason for getting picked. The easy part is over now is when it gets tough.

Not really remember this is an established franchise not an expansion team so I wouldn't think so

Round 6 is over Jason Kasdorf openned the goalie flood gates as 6 more goalies were chosen in this round.

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2011 Part II: The Bryce is Right

That's it. The two most likely to be drafted got drafted.

All in all a really successful draft for us. If we can have 2 draft picks per year we could have 8 on the roster at any given time-that would be spectacular. These two boys went about as expected. Things are really coming together in Troy-RPI hockey will be a lot of fun for the forseeable future.

Interesting that to date 5 of the 7 SA recruits who have been drafted have been defensive players (3 dmen [Foss, Bergin, Koudys] and 2 goalies [York, Kasdorf]) while only 2 forwards (Pirri, D'Amigo).

From his very first recruiting class, he has recruited very good defensemen. It is true that defense wins championships and we are building a very good defense. With the fire power coming in at forward, the next four years are going to be very exciting, and dare I say, very rewarding.

Interesting point. And the two forwards were gone after one year. Perhaps SA is building a defensive dynasty? I really like that approach as I have always felt that defense keeps you competitive in every game.

The better forwards that we have gotten have been somewhat undersized (even Pirri and D'A really), making them less likely to be drafted.
