Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2011 Part II: The Bryce is Right

a short sample but Gabe Gertler who is by far the leading scorer in the U-16 camp is still uncommited according to Heisenberg, see Tier 1 2013 class (Team Ill.)....http://www.usahockey.com/Season/TopScorers.aspx?EventID=2699&AgeDivisionID=1938

And he is from Florida. SA has recruited at least two players from Florida (Halpern and Leboeuf).

BTW, Guertler appears to be the correct spelling of his last name, or at least it got more hits.

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2011 Part II: The Bryce is Right

Today is 28 June 2011. There are 95 days until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 1 October for the start of next season.

That is the day that an exhibition game is supposedly scheduled.

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2011 Part II: The Bryce is Right

A Washington Capitals blog report on PK http://dumpnchase.com/?p=842. An interesting scouting report at the end.

Needs to shoot more, getting shots to the net...

I hate to sound like a gloomy gus, but this has been a bit of a common theme in the Appert era. Not just Koudys, but you could name many players. I realize that our game style is very defensively minded, our league is tough with shot blocking, I don't expect us to blow out our opponents 8-0, 9-0, etc., and I did hear Coach's comments regarding the difficulty of teaching players how to score, but perhaps there is something to look at here.

Thanks coach.

You're welcome.

I am not sure where you are going with this, we have Bergin and Bailen on the blue line. They both bring the offense when needed. Why would we want to load up on offensive defensemen. Especially this year when we have a goaltender with limited experience. I am all for defensive defensemen who can make that first pass out of the zone and get the offense started. Koudys will do that for us along with a number of others. Let the offense score the goals.
We have to be proficient at both ends of the ice if we want to win championships.
I really like the team we will be putting on the ice this year.
Any news on Kasdorf's SATs?

How the heck should I know about his SAT's? I don't follow that kind of stuff. I realize some people think I do, or think that I think I do...

I know we have to be proficient at both sides of the ice in order to win championships. We're quite proficient defensively. If the two-way game is going to be touted, then let's start working on the offense, rather than just "letting the offense score the goals".

I'm also excited for this year's team.

I think we are overanalyzing this. It sounds like PK needs to learn to take a better look before he unloads at the point. Accurate shots are nice but not critical (see Zdeno Chara). The important thing is to get the shot through so things start to happen.

That report was overall very positive I thought. Sounds like a young Johnny Boychuck. End of Bruins references.....

I absolutely love the scouting report at the end - it is so easy to forget that he started the season at 17 years old, and then based on this report its even clearer that PK right now is all upside and that we havent even scratched the surface with respect to the level that this kid can play at....and thats down-right scary.

As a side note, my oldest was recently admitted off the wait-list and he is enrolled - I havent had to make a payment yet, but I have the season ticket application filled out ! My wife is ready to shoot me, but I dont care. I cant wait to see this team in 2-3 years and cant wait for the season to start.

Woah, there, cowboy. No need to get so defensive. I could be wrong, but ehf probably threw that question out for anyone who may have insight to answer.

I do not necessarily agree with how this is put forth, but thats alright and to your point - yes we have performed well defensively, and yes we need to score more. I consistently had posted last season that we were 1-2 goals a game away from being a really really top notch team. We had games where we scored 1-2 and if thats 3-4 with how we play defensively, our record would have been crazy. For me the biggest area in need of improvement is in breaking out of our zone and transition. I just dont think that we had enough opportunities to score last year (just look at some of the game totals for shots where we were clearly behind). You cannot get those shots unless you get out of your own zone in into the opponents. All of this being said, my belief is that this is all coming together rather than falling apart. I'm less concerned with last year and thought a transition year for us any way. Maybe a bit next year as well. 2 and 3 years from now, we will be scary.

keep in mind that this was being said by someone whose main interest is the Wash. Caps., not RPI Needs to shoot more, getting shots to the net...

It was a general question asked to everyone. We know the school is waiting to receive his score before admitting him, so whether he got it or not is of some interest.

What the score is, of course, is a bridge too far, but thankfully no one seems to be that nosy in this case.

You're welcome.

Nicely put-this year should be a lot of fun but we appear to be building for the following years. If we can continue to recruit like we have for this year's group-the possibilities are endless. Last time I had that sensation was in the early 80's when it seemed like things were all just fitting into place.:)

First, it was a general question. Second, I don't care what number he came up with. My only concern is that he is acceptable to RPI. Also, if he does not make it, can we be sure that Diebold is acceptable to the school?

That part appears to be from https://www.isshockey.com/scouting/home. I don't think there is a connection between them and the Caps.

I believe turk's point was that the article was referring to one particular person. I was not doubting that fact whatsoever. One thing I was doing was looking at our past (from the team as a whole, not just the contributions of a select few) and making some connections from there. Yes, it's different players, and most of the players that were on the team since Coach called out the need to shoot during several post-game interviews have since graduated, but if it seems to keep happening, there may be something to it.

That's true RB. My point though was that the critique of PK was, what's in the best interest of Wash. At the Hockey Banquet I was at a table w/Bo Dolan. I jokingly chided him for not shooting more (he has a bomb for a shot also). He said, and I'm para-phrasing, as a young, new player on a team, it's in the back of your mind..what if I shoot...it gets blocked & they get a breakaway. Of course, him still speaking, in the split second you've thought about it the lane has closed & there's no longer that clear shot. I (me speaking) think Bailens experience at BGU & the years he spent in the USHL were instrumental in his decision making, including shot selection and knowing how to position yourself away from the puck for a quality shot. As Dr. D would, just my 2 cents.
