RPI Off-Season Thread 2011 Part II: The Bryce is Right

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2011 Part II: The Bryce is Right

Does SA change his philosophy concerning, "led by our seniors". Probably not but it sure looks like the incoming class (hardware in tow) has the kind of talent to make an immediate impact on the ice this year.

I think that our great coach may have used that mantra to instill confidence in the boys. I would hazard to say that when he was at DU many of those teams consisted of underclassmen leading the team because of the great turnover of kids going pro. We can win with underclassmen, look at Notre Dame (see Tom Reale's insightful Know thy Enemy -WaP) . We won with JDA, Pirri and Chase leading the team the year before last.

I am surprised Justin gets the A. We don't get to see him on the ice very much, so he must be a terrific off-the-ice and in-practice motivator. Given he's stayed with the program and not transferred despite the lack of time on the ice (stares at Cyr and Watts), he must have one of the best "Never give up, never surrender" attitudes on the team.

I am surprised too, but with 4 letters awarded they don't have to all be in the lineup, and he probably is well respected by his teammates.

Captains have been named: http://rpiathletics.com/news/2011/6/2/MHOCK_0602112433.aspx

Bergin & Malchuk each get the C
Angers-Goulet & Smith each get an A

I saw this earlier off the RPI-Sports messages actually really like the choices. You cannot not love Malchuk...another warrior and played all the time when a man down with great intensity. Smith didnt play much, but when he did I like his size and determination / intensity and quite frankly didnt understand why he didnt get more ice. Regardless, SA knows what he's doing and this entire team is bought into this program, seemingly irrespective of individal roles and personalities. The more I watch them and read about them and hear what they all say and get reports about events like the banquet, I'm increasingly convinced that these kids and this program operates as a single unit and group rather than as a bunch of individuals. Love that. Its what makes winning teams and programs.

No Dr. D - i didnt have the benefit of seeing your post before submitting mine. I type like a snail sometimes and got distracted for a work item before fininshing my post. Glad to see that we seem to be saying the exact same things....

That's OK-love when someone agrees with me. Doesn't happen all that much.:)

Like the picks for the C and A. Enjoy watching Justin Smith the few times he has been out, brought a ton of energy and hits and it is great to see him rewarded for sticking with the program. Bergin and Malchuk are the grizzled vets who will show the young guys the ropes early on this season. Also this must mean the recruit list is due out soon I would think? With the WaP site getting going with weekly posts again, it wont be long until the season starts and I for one cannot wait. Will be watching the NHL draft closer than I usually do now with PK and maybe Kasdorf having shots of getting picked up.

Today is 3 June 2011. There are 120 days until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 1 October for the start of next season.

That is the day that an exhibition game is supposedly scheduled.

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2011 Part II: The Bryce is Right

perhaps Daniel Alltshuller is going the CHL route. Under the list of invites for Canada's U-18 Team he's the only one not currently playing Major Jr.'s http://www.nhl.com/ice/blog.htm?id=99

He was the only non-Major Jr player on another national team last season, so I wouldn't read anything into that. In any case, I don't think he is going to RPI at this point anyway, as I doubt we are looking for another goalie in the near term.

I would like to think though that he is not going to go to one of our frequent competitors in the ECAC-he is going to be a good one.

Me too, but OTOH, I don't like to see Major Junior win recruiting battles.

Great interview, now we all know why Smith was picked as an AC.
I too look forward to seeing Kirk MacDonald play in an NHL game. Boston gave Healey a chance to play in the NHL, I hope they do the same for Kirk.

Did they call Kirk up for the playoffs? I realize the alumni thread may have that answer, but I'm lazy...

Just curious, does anyone know or heard any recent rumors if theres more work to be done to the inside of HFH over the summer? I know there was talks of a new sound system at some point and the possiblity of new seats being installed or having the old seats painted. Not sure if these things are still in the plans or not.

No he is not one of the Black Aces.

I think it will be tough for Kirk to get any games with Boston. Healey was always a top scorer in the AHL and he barely got a whiff. Then again if Boston makes many more trades like the Kaberle deal they might run out of good forward prospects.
