RPI Off-Season III: Another Helping of Mindless Speculation and Idle Chit Chat

Re: RPI Off-Season III: Another Helping of Mindless Speculation and Idle Chit Chat

First, we're thankfully somewhat insulated from what's going on with D-II schools in the west, right now anyway.

Second, if Hockey East thinks the status of hockey is in danger at RPI, they don't know hockey very well. I suspect RPI would move to Division I in all sports (which they now have the theoretical capacity to do with their new facilities) rather than force hockey down to D-III.

I agree with the cloud.

There was the unconfirmed rumor back when the scholarship elimination proposal was on the table that RPI along with JHU was going to join the Patriot League if it was passed.

My concern with RPI going D-I in all sports is that we would eventually become just another basketball school.

Basketball can coexist with hockey. Look at SUNY Ithaca, they manage OK.

I think he meant hockey that doesn't put you to sleep. I know I've caught myself a couple times sleeping at Lynah Natatorium.

How have we fallen to making "That's what she said" jokes in Latin?

Fallen? I'm trying to raise the discussion, that's how pathetic things have been around here.

Not exactly on point but I stopped at the World Series of Poker in Vegas yesterday 20 players left and it got down to the final nine last nite. One of the announcers mentioned that a player attended the prestigious Rensselaer Institute of Technology which seems like quite a commute.

Today is 21 July 2011. There are 72 days until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 1 October for the start of next season.

Does anyone remember who the defenseman was a couple of years ago who stated that he would be playing for RPI?

FWIW, Bruce Statton actually lead the RPI ACHA team in scoring as a Dman with a line of 23gp-13g-8a-21pts his freshman season. I think he could be a likely finalist for that 8th spot.
