RPI Off-Season III: Another Helping of Mindless Speculation and Idle Chit Chat

Re: RPI Off-Season III: Another Helping of Mindless Speculation and Idle Chit Chat

Today is 18 July 2011. There are 75 days until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 1 October for the start of next season.

Another addition to the directory:

Name: Scott Francis Diebold
Class: First-Year Student
Curriculum: Business and Management

Still no Kasdorf, right? That might be an indication that Diebold is the incoming goaltender. Of course, these mean relatively nothing, aren't Bradley and Zalewski also listed in the directory? Though in this case, where the concern is thought to be about getting Kasdorf's educational ducks in a row to get him admitted for this year, there might be some significance.

Correct. Kasdorf is the only recruit (except Wood and Melanson) thats not listed in the directory at the moment. Zalewski, Bradley, Miller and now Diebold who are expected in 2012 are all listed.

Please excuse my ignorance on this, but if those players listed attend school this year but don't play hockey, do they lose a year of eligibility?

Not just by being in the directory. They probably just completed their application in case SA wanted them earlier.

Unless they qualify for a redshirt for some reason, I believe this is the case.

This is what I was thinking, as well. Similar to how he-who-must-not-be-named was in the directory before bolting for Harvard.

14.2.1 Five-Year Rule. A student-athlete shall complete his or her seasons of participation within five calendar years from the beginning of the semester or quarter in which the student-athlete first registered for a minimum full-time program of studies in a collegiate institution, with time spent in the armed services, on official religious missions or with recognized foreign aid services of the U.S. government being excepted. For international students, service in the armed forces or on an official religious mission of the student’s home country is considered equivalent to such service in the United States. (Revised: 4/2/10)

Being in the directory is meaningless, as far as eligibility is concerned. As soon as they register for college classes full-time, the 5-year clock starts ticking (with exceptions too numerous to be listed in a post here). From my understanding of a quick read through the D1 manual, taking classes part-time does not affect their eligibility provided that they do not participate in official practices or intercollegiate competition.

That was my thought also. Hopefully, if there is some current problem with his resume, it will be straightened out for 2012.

Links to audio of Saturday's Capitals' rookie camp scrimmage with Pat Koudys are here http://capitals.nhl.com/index.html. I guess that they were too cheap to film it.

Edit: Isn't cow-dice the correct pronumciation, not coo-dis?

Am I the only one who thinks that if Kasdorf doesn't come in this year, that we may not see him at all?
After all, his progress will be determined by his NHL team. And if he is not coming in as the #1 goalie in 2012, might he be steered in a different direction by Calgary?
I am not trying to start anything, just thinking of the possibilites.

Calgary really shouldn't have much say, since he was drafted by the Winnipeg franchise. :o

I don't think that Calgary will care. Winnipeg, perhaps. ;)

There are a lot of scenarios that could play out this year, but in any case IMO Kasdorf will probably be #1 by the end of 2012-13.
