RPI @ MSU-Mankato (10/19 - 10/20)

Re: RPI @ MSU-Mankato (10/19 - 10/20)

I think that it works that way more in theory than in practice.

It definitely worked in practice with cell phone pricing! When it comes to streaming video of college hockey, it may be that it simply isn't worth the effort...even if you improve margins by x% the dollar total will probably still be relatively small.

Re: RPI @ MSU-Mankato (10/19 - 10/20)

I'm surprised they don't experiment a bit more to find out....

There's a very interesting progression on how pricing these kinds of packages works (see: history of cell phone pricing):
> step one: charge what you need to cover your fixed costs given your initial subscriber base
> step two: once your fixed costs are covered (you have a required minimum number of subscribers), you can increase overall revenue by then reducing what you charge more slowly than your subscriber base increases, since incremental costs are a small part of your total charge
> step three: you now have so many subscribers that your fixed costs now are a small fraction of total revenue, and it's all about finding the "sweet spot" between size of subscriber base and what you charge them.

Or you can do what the US Postal Service does. Raise your price by 1¢ per year for a first class letter-ignore all other aspects of business and go bankrupt.;) Seriously-once cell phone carriers have captured everyone they can-and have the public hooked so they feel they cannot live without them (my gosh-what did people do all day without cell phones 20 years ago?) at some time they can begin to just increase across the board by whatever amounts they want (as long as competing carriers have the same idea). Verizon has alreay been doing this here in NJ for land line customers who cannot exist without that service. They just automatically increase each year or add in some bogus charge for something you never expected to pay for.

Or just be like my uncle and me, and not use a telephone.

Re: RPI @ MSU-Mankato (10/19 - 10/20)

I told one of the players parents this weekend after Saturday's game I felt sorry for the boys that were not playing BUT I really liked the lines we put out. That led to a discussion on what will happen when O'Grady is ready to come back? Interesting about traveling number, brings up a question though, does this mean Coupal must have traveled by himself when I saw him at the away games I went to last year?

After watching the injury list climb each of the past few years-I am glad we have the extra bodies. I hope we always have a bunch of healthy scratches but truthfully I think everyone is going to be needed sooner or later this season. I would love to see O'Grady back and if he sits or someone else does, then we have one more body available. This is going to be a tough season and a very competitive league season. SA will be doing a lot of juggling and it is just great to have the depth to do it.

Couldn't we have just traveled with one fewer skater? I wouldn't think you could circumvent the rules by having players travel by themselves.

I think the only game where he absolutely travelled separately was when York had to be pulled out during the 2010-11 season, and that was the Q-Pac game. Coupal then had to go down to Princeton to be the backup. I wouldn't be surprised if the ECAC offered an exception in this case due to the NCAA requirement that you must have a backup goaltender in goaltender padding on the bench to start the game. As for the other ones, it's possible he was brought as part of the 23.

He was acting in a support role last year, wasn't he? So maybe he could go along with the stipulation that he could not suit up.

There's also the possibility that the rule could have been rescinded fairly recently, although I doubt it given one of the sources that mentioned this rule on here. However, in either case, the rule does not apply for this weekend's games.

I assume that you left out "not" in the last sentence.

I'll take that as a compliment FD!;)

Excited to have hockey start again! Can't wait for this weekend.
I watched one game on B2, it was MSU @ CC a couple of years ago. One camera behind the goal and safety net-- horrible. I haven't bothered since. Does America One tap into the local TV feed if one is available? If so the home games at MSU would be worth it, if not I quess it's a crap shoot.

When RPI had America One, the local TV feed was used when available. Whether that is also the case for Mankato, i don't know.

Re: RPI @ MSU-Mankato (10/19 - 10/20)

If that is the case, things should be good to go, as Minnesota State signed a deal with Charter earlier this week.
