RPI MMXI III: Overanalyzing The Iron Men and Other Uses of Internet Bandwidth

Re: RPI MMXI III: Overanalyzing The Iron Men and Other Uses of Internet Bandwidth

Tough loss tonight... RPI looked like the team that was coming off short rest, instead of the other way around.

Seemed to be a family sitting in the row in front of me that must have some interesting dinner conversations. Two girls and (presumably) their mother, one girl cheering for RPI and the other for Clarkson.

Hopefully RPI can put tonight's game behind them and come out the victors tomorrow night.

Heres a pic of the new scoreboard thanks to WaP

Color me as only moderately impressed...as it did nothing but run continuous ads all night, it added absolutely nothing to the game experience. If they can manage to add some out of town scores, and perhaps a replay or two, then we'll have something. I'll withhold judgment for the time being.

Credit to CCT for a high energy game from the get go-- they were ready to go and brought physical play all night, had excellent goaltending and did very well in the faceoff circle. That said, the refs were about as bad as I've seen all year...two CCTs guys sitting next to me freely admitted to me after the game that RPI got the short end. Apparently, hooking is no longer a penalty in the ECAC, as our guys were molested all night. If nothing else, it erased the #10 poll B.S. from the boys heads. Oh well, put it behind us and go get a W tomorrow night.

Hey wicked, Watched the game on the net so it is sometimes hard to tell, but it seemed we (cct) had a little more jump and pop in our game, very closely played but I thought we edged you on the effort. I thought you were shortchanged on 1 call for sure, maybe 2 calls.
All the best,
Drew

Were they twins?

Re: RPI MMXI III: Overanalyzing The Iron Men and Other Uses of Internet Bandwidth

I wonder if that's why the refs were in the far locker room, so they didn't have do deal with us telling them what kind of a job they did. Granted I was with the band yesterday, but still...

Overall felt we were not that bad-until you think about the last 8 minutes of the third period and the OT. Offensively we got off some good chances but were just either blocked or stoned. Defensively this team was fine until we got the lead at 2-1. Then there seemed to be a let down and we allowed Clarkson to press the attack. Credit to CCT they did what they had to late in the game and we did not stop them.

I believe they've said the video portion won't be up and running til around Freakout - they're still working on getting the infrastructure in place and getting RPI TV set up with it. I'd also like to see the penalties set up with some kind of nicer presentation, and could do without the magenta background for the advertisements. I'm sure they'll be tweaking all this stuff in the next couple weeks.

I disagree, we were very bad, it looked like we were sleeping except for a strong effort from Lee and Brut, forget the top 10,this performance was bottom 10, we were out played all over the ice and CCT owned the boards as was best displayed by the game winning goal, CCT appears bigger, stronger and better with their sticks, if not for York it would have been CCT 7 RPI 2, we had very few quality chances and could not penetrate the zone or keep it in the zone. I also think the defense personnel was better prior to the holidays.

Re: RPI MMXI III: Overanalyzing The Iron Men and Other Uses of Internet Bandwidth

I liked how they showed the players pictures on the scoreboard when they introduced the players. That was a nice touch. I'm sure they will be able to do cool things in the future.
I thought we were flat the first period, played good the second and third, and then Clarkson just dominated us in overtime. Of course Murphy stayed true to being a bad ref. How did we get stuck with him 2 days in a row? I can't wait until we can show replays, and I hope they show all the bad calls the refs make. Overall it was a good game, with RPI coming out with a loss. It could have gone either way.
Attendance was better than I expected, given the weather and the really slow drive.

Re: RPI MMXI III: Overanalyzing The Iron Men and Other Uses of Internet Bandwidth

a few takes
1- clarkson was all over the ice.... outhustling, passing, skating.... they wanted this game bad.
2- im not gonna quite say its a must win tonight but pretty **** close looking at the standings in ecac
3- we miss higgs and halps. Smith will give you a great 110 % effort but skills not there.
4- which d will sit tonight as lebouf enters the lineup
5- clarksons band is the most annoying band in college hockey.

Really, I wasn't at the game, but got to watch it on the poor quality b2networks. It seemed like an even game until we went ahead 2-1. Then Clarkson kicked it up a notch and left us for dead.
We had some good scoring chances and a least one goal post. We outshot them and spent a good portion of the game in the Clarkson zone. We were able to get out of our zone fairly easy and had a pretty good forecheck.
All of that prior to our second goal.
I certainly didn't see it as blow out you described. JMO

Forget the shots on goal, they were pretty meaningless in this game, as for the goal post they rang one off it also, Appert's remarks run close to my view, and CCT controlled the play for most of the game.

Re: RPI MMXI III: Overanalyzing The Iron Men and Other Uses of Internet Bandwidth

Halfway through the first period, I was asking myself, "Are we actually going to play tonight?" Let's hope we decide to actually play tonight.

Drew - that pretty much sums it up. RPI battled back a bit in the 2nd and 3rd, but overall effort & intensity was advantage CCT - hence their win. Your keeper played very well I thought. I would add that it was a great game to watch, as much as I disliked the outcome.

As it was my first post-game post, I should have waited a bit to comment on the scoreboard. I did see a rep from the board company there, so they are def. still tweaking the setup...I know they'll get it ironed out. That said, why Al didn't give us any out of town scores over the PA until after the 2nd period is sad...I expect better from our crew.

Re: RPI MMXI III: Overanalyzing The Iron Men and Other Uses of Internet Bandwidth

Rabbani was the only guy who brought it last night IMO. We missed Brock last night in the faceoff circle. Bailen was also his usual self... excellent. Agree with WS that the officiating was bad, missing offsides, missing icing calls. basic stuff. Coach gave the team no cover in the paper and should'nt have because they laid a giant egg last night. Whether it is the hangover from Alabama or whatever we need to notch up the intensity level big time.
