Re: RPI MMXI III: Overanalyzing The Iron Men and Other Uses of Internet Bandwidth

Forget the shots on goal, they were pretty meaningless in this game, as for the goal post they rang one off it also, Appert's remarks run close to my view, and CCT controlled the play for most of the game.
Absolutely true. Hopefully we'll use it as a wake-up call. SLU is always ready to go at HFH and will be tonight, IMO.

Re: RPI MMXI III: Overanalyzing The Iron Men and Other Uses of Internet Bandwidth

Rabbani was the only guy who brought it last night IMO. We missed Brock last night in the faceoff circle. Bailen was also his usual self... excellent. Agree with WS that the officiating was bad, missing offsides, missing icing calls. basic stuff. Coach gave the team no cover in the paper and should'nt have because they laid a giant egg last night. Whether it is the hangover from Alabama or whatever we need to notch up the intensity level big time.

I thought Burger had some good shifts as did AAG in the 2nd and 3rd. I thought Tinordi would have been a good physical addition last night..we were outsized a bit I thought. Short memories are in order. Lets go get a W tonight.

Agree about AAG and also that Tinordi would have helped in the nastiness area. From what I observed we lost alot of faceoffs and that defintely speaks to intensity level. I'm sure that someone will come up with faceoff stat.

Re: RPI MMXI III: Overanalyzing The Iron Men and Other Uses of Internet Bandwidth

Sometimes it comes down to Heart and who wants it more...I hope there was a lot of soul searching in that locker room.We were clearly out played and out hustled by a team that we were clearly better than.We were were pushed, shoved, hooked an interfered with all night and for some reason Ref. Murphy chose to let that all go(I don't believe to he called 1 penalty on CCT all game !)well here's a news flash, the ECAC is a push, shove, hook, and hold... trapping league(putting yale aside) thats why nobody ever goes beyond the first round of the NCAA playoffs so lets hope we get that figuered out... by tonite hopefully... because we will get more of the same tonite and every other night...I believe we are now in a dog fight for a home playoff spot so the sooner the boys figure out that every game is RPI vs Union and needs that type of effort the better chance we have of reaching that goal. That doesn't come from the coaching staff that comes from the heart and you either got it or you don't.So its gut check time.I believe we have what it takes, but we best start showing it lest we end up finishing right where the pre season poll picked us or lower....don't let that happen. We don't need to achieve we need to over achieve !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: RPI MMXI III: Overanalyzing The Iron Men and Other Uses of Internet Bandwidth

In speaking of the refs, what was up with them coming out on the other side? I mean, we're not THAT bad in Section 33...

I don't know the breakdown of which ref called which penalty, but for the recoed, RPI went 0-5 on the PP.

Well said troyboy. Gut check time. If the seniors want to make the impact that they say they do on the program it is put up time. I know they have it in them too. Plus we have the best coach in D1 to get it done.

Speaking of seniors the OT goal was a scored on a give away by a senior #15 he could have easially cleared the puck from the zone, but chose to get cute and got the puck taken away....bad hockey instinct...again something you either have or you don't.

It was a bad turnover. But no one is harder on himself then Tyler, IMO. I'm sure he didn't sleep much last night. He'll get it going tonight, I have a feeling.

And there in lies the difference. RPI never adjusted to CCT taking away the point shot. If they don`t adjust to that real soon the PP % will go south faster than the financilly solid senior citizens of Troy. I thought both teams endured some brutal calls non calls all night long. The game could have gone either way and it went clarksons way.

Re: RPI MMXI III: Overanalyzing The Iron Men and Other Uses of Internet Bandwidth

"I thought both teams endured some brutal calls non calls all night long" I agree totally I wasn't saying we lost because of the officiating, but I believe there was a residule effect from the CCT/UMD game where I believe Murphy called about a million minutes in penalties. After the second period (I sit in sec.9) Roll and Murphy had a long conversation leaving the ice.I have no idea what was said but Roll was doing all the talking.Im sure it was about at the end of the second period where RPI commited a IMO text book hitting from behind/boarding penalty right in front of Murphy and there was no call.Im sure he was put on notice by Roll and that w/what happened at Cheel earlier in the week affected his judgement(if he has any to begin with).Bad officiating begets bad officiating and Mr.Murphy is the shinning example of that.I call him Mr.Makeup Call.I promised myself I wouldn't opine on the officiating in the new year but it is soooooo frustrating...I also said I was going to lose a couple lbs's and Im sitting here vegitating on the board eating Oreo cookies and dunking them in milk(hopeing the snow in my driveway will melt).....Oh Well...I'll start tomorrow !!!!!!

Re: RPI MMXI III: Overanalyzing The Iron Men and Other Uses of Internet Bandwidth

I disagree, we were very bad, it looked like we were sleeping except for a strong effort from Lee and Brut, forget the top 10,this performance was bottom 10, we were out played all over the ice and CCT owned the boards as was best displayed by the game winning goal, CCT appears bigger, stronger and better with their sticks, if not for York it would have been CCT 7 RPI 2, we had very few quality chances and could not penetrate the zone or keep it in the zone. I also think the defense personnel was better prior to the holidays.

I still don't think we were all that bad and that this was a winnable game especially when we went up 2-1 in the third. No excuses for losing that lead. But I have to agree completely with you about the defensive personnel looking and playing better prior to the holidays. Not sure why the chemistry on defense changed-perhaps without JFK guys played up more to their potential, but whatever the reason, they were flat out better then.

Re: RPI MMXI III: Overanalyzing The Iron Men and Other Uses of Internet Bandwidth

Leading the ECAC in assists: Murphy and Crew
St. Lawrence was at least a couple of feet offsides when they scorred one of their goals.
We really need to get the instant replay going as soon as possible. As far as the the other goals. Ours was clearly in, and I don't think the St. Lawrences's goal the third period was a goal( but then again I didn't have a good few on this one). I just saw it going past the goal, not behind the line. Some people probably had a better view.
Good night for Polacek, Helfrich needs to stop trying to get the perfect goal and just shoot the puck. Defense still wasn't that good tonight, and needs to step it up, although I liked Bailen tonight. For a very short stretch the defense kept shooting the puck on goal, and their goaly gave up a lot of rebounds, unfortunatly that ended when Murphy called a penalty on us.
I thought RPI played a little better tonight, but they still need to work on a few things if they wanna go all the way.

I'm pretty sure we have some form of replay; the refs trying to figure out how to use the walkie-talkie during our reversal and SLU's no-goal was just amusing. Plus, I'm not sure they would have reversed the call without replay.

SLU's 3rd goal seemed to be in from where I was sitting (granted I was right behind the penalty box, so it wasn't the best view).

We definitely need to stop being cute with the puck, it happened a lot this weekend. All those things Coach mentions in the press conferences are the absolute truth.

Re: RPI MMXI III: Overanalyzing The Iron Men and Other Uses of Internet Bandwidth

A couple of thoughts. Allen is hurt. Watch him when play is in the other end, he favors his one side (Interested in WS thoughts). Suspect this injury is from the US Junior game. Of course we are screwed if Allen is not 100 %. The PP needs work (I know I am going out on a limb :D). The wingers are positioned too far in the corner, making the shot a tougher angle. I think Chase needs to come towards the dot more like last year. Bailen and Dolan D-Combo is playing the best right now. I hope that we see more of Rogic, he is staring to find his grove. Johnny Rocket played well both nights. Night in and night out he is the fastest player on the ice. I think he will be special.

All valid points-I too think York has been less than 100% for a number of games lately. Getting Chase free on the PP is a priority-but every opponent's coach knows that and specifically has their team do whatever is necessary to keep him from a comfortable area and/or getting the puck. This is what happens when you are a Hobey Baker quality player. Others on the RPI team will just have to score on the power play to free up some room for Chase(thank G0D for Bailen). This team still has a ways to go-but they are a good, or very good team with a lot of talent. They have some faults and need to work on them-they start awful slowly in some games and have some difficulties with special teams. But they are indeed a possible NCAA tournament team this year and that is something we have not been able to say around here for 15 years.

As always, well put. The configuration of the PP last night had two wingers almost in the corners. Creating a tough angle shot. Spacing needs to be imporoved and I think that we are starting out too far. Not doubt SA will figure it out. Because of the parity it is important to be good on PP.

I sure hope so-with the way most games are called by the refs, we seem to get about 6 or so PPs per game and give up as many. 12 special teams opportunites are just such a big portion of every game.

Agree w/the observation that York is nursing an injury.Watched warm ups very carefully and he takes really short reps...at one point he took a shot in the mid section and left the net skated to the bench area stood there bent over for a prolonged period of time...I too would be interested in the opinion of our resident goalie expert WS....
