Five games in nine days, not eight.

Friday night will be the first time RPI has played a league game at home since November 3. They have played half of their league schedule, with eight games having been played on the road and only three at home.

Of course, that means the Engineers will play eight of their last eleven league games on home ice. Win a good share of those eight, and they could be rewarded with more home games in the first round of the playoffs.

Quirk of scheduling can help our developing team.

The game with Brown was a tight defensive struggle until it wasn't. RPI had several excellent chances and did not bury any of them. Then in the third period, Brown took away the neutral zone, precisely and completely, and buried their chances. RPI lost their focus after the first Brown goal and pretty much looked defeated after the second. The one thing that I found very noticeable about RPI in the Third period especially was the number of turnovers they committed. It looked like Brown figured out how to shut down RPI in the neutral zone as the game went along. And RPI had no answer for that. It is like RPI played their game plan exactly as it was mapped out for them. And they did that well. Winning teams are able to figure out in game adjustments. You will lose if you aren't able to counter with changes of your own. If RPi had buried their chances earlier in the game (2 or 3 posts, few missed nets, and a few great saves by Brown's goalie) the conversation would be very different.

Not a large amount of alums.

So small they had to play 4v4.

The Brown game was completely uninspiring. I lost count of the number of times we iced the puck. I was embarrassed to bring my nephews to it.

It was equally uninspiring for those watching at home. However we lost because of a missing tag on the game thread. :p

Re: RPI Hockey 2018 - 2019: 28 Guys Skate onto a Rink ...

I have a recollection that there was once a game in which RPI's substitute goaltender was obliged to play for the opposing team.

It happened in the early '60's, before I was a student at RPI. I wasn't at the game, so I'm recounting what I heard about it. I'm pretty sure that the opponent was a Canadian team, and my hazy recollection is that it was Sir George Williams.

The visiting team brought only one goaltender, and it was just a bad night for him every way you could think of. First RPI jumped out to a huge lead, then the goalie got hurt.

Since the goalie couldn't continue and since the outcome of the game was no longer in doubt, the coaches agreed that RPI's second-string goalie would finish the game in the other team's net.

Later in the game, an RPI player drove hard to the goal and bumped the goalie pretty hard, knocking him off his skates. Of course, he didn't mean any harm, seeing that the guy was his own teammate.

But the visiting team's players took off after the RPI net-crasher. That was the code back then - we don't care who you are, you mess with the guy who's playing goal for us and we'll get after you.

They don't do that sort of thing any more. There'd probably be a five-minute major and a game disqualification and a suspension for any player who tried to defend his goalie in that manner.

But if Owen Savory had been playing for that Canadian team back in the '60's and as many liberties had been taken with him as Yale took tonight, there would have been a heck of a good fight.

Agreed. But liberties are liberties because the refs are not protecting the goalies. The reason the types of responses you cite are not seen often is the refs have been instructed to make sure offenders are penalized. That was not the case against Yale. Speaking of liberties....What is up with Jakub Lacka? In the Brown game, particularly early, and, to a lesser extent but still apparent against Yale, he seems to be targeted. Did he commit some dirty hit somewhere along the line?

Maybe he's effective and they need to take him out. Brown has always played dirty.

Smallest alumni crowd that I can remember for freakout embarrassing also appert made current players come to bench smith didn’t care enough

God forbid maybe we was coaching them in between periods ?

Maybe he cares about having the team improve on faceoffs and shots allowed, of which both have improved.
