RPI Hockey 2017 - 2018: A Wealth of Notions

Re: RPI Hockey 2017 - 2018: A Wealth of Notions

I think a weekend split is a perfectly reasonable expectation out of the weekend, and any more than two "points" would be a bonus.

I think we have a definite goaltending advantage over Niagara (harder to say with RIT, especially if they play the freshman they used against NU), but goaltending has rarely been the problem with RPI teams lately. The fact that we only scored twice on 47 shots last weekend (or 3 on 79 if you want to count the exhibition) kind of shows that if we want wins, they're going to be of the 1-0 or 2-1 variety. It's obviously very early, but until we show that we can put three goals on the board in a game (or more than 30 shots in a real game), I'll have to remain skeptical of our chances, even against Atlantic Hockey competition.

I just hope we don't split the hard way, like last week.

Don’t know how he’s doing in practices but maybe try inserting Owen Stout into the lineup?

I'll stick with Reds and Ambers, thanks. Although I do hear Full Boar has Imperatoria Tenebris Victoria, which is supposed to be a good stout... :p:D

Re: RPI Hockey 2017 - 2018: A Wealth of Notions

One more meaningless stat for the heck of it: We're 15th in <strike>Western Bias</strike> KRACH rating. :D

Re: RPI Hockey 2017 - 2018: A Wealth of Notions

I wondered about that too. I suspect that he is no longer doing it.

I decided that I won't be doing it this year. Might reconsider next year but got a lot going on. Thanks to all the fans that participated for all the years.

My paranoia is telling me that you made this decision based solely on the fact that jenny and i have returned! Kidding of course, just glad to see you are back so you can watch the resurgence of the Cherry and White.

Re: RPI Hockey 2017 - 2018: A Wealth of Notions

When the new game thread is started, feel free to post the thread-starting stats from the Friday game and update them with a loss for me. It should be easy to calculate my cumulative winning percentage.

I may not be back before the game starts.

Re: RPI Hockey 2017 - 2018: A Wealth of Notions

The good news: We scored more than one goal. That's something we hadn't done in the season (including the exhibition) until now.

The bad news: Loss on account of regression to the mean when it comes to xx:59 goals. Even if the team historically has had our number.

The ugly news: Every counted game thus far has gone to overtime. I know I've said give a full 65 minute effort, but I didn't think it'd constantly be necessary.

Headed to tonight's game, hopefully things go better and we give a full 65 minute effort.

Re: RPI Hockey 2017 - 2018: A Wealth of Notions

Someone at WRPI was apparently under the impression that football games, like hockey games, consist of only three periods. They cut off the broadcast of the RPI-Alfred game at the end of the third quarter and started doing public service announcements.

They corrected the mistake several minutes into the fourth quarter, though they missed an RPI touchdown in the meantime.

It's been a terrific second half for the Engineers, as they have come from a 7-6 halftime deficit to a 30-7 lead midway through the fourth quarter. This is against a very good Alfred team that came into the game with a 5-1 record.

I have heard announcers talking about half time in hockey games. (notWwRPI)

Re: RPI Hockey 2017 - 2018: A Wealth of Notions

here's a nearly-useless, but congruent fact considering the leadership change -- last time RPI scored 8 (or more) goals was 12/10/05 v. RIT, a 10-7 win.

I'll let you guys connect the dots here. :)
