RPI Hockey 2017 - 2018: A Wealth of Notions

Re: RPI Hockey 2017 - 2018: A Wealth of Notions

Just glad we avoid Mount Union and Mary Hardin for the time being. Wesley is a very highly regarded team and it could all end in Delaware, but we have a chance. Having watched all the games this year, I have a lot of faith in our defense (against the run especially) and some faith in our offense to score. Will it be enough? Doubtful as i just do not think we can hold the score down enough and am predicting a 28-14 score against. But that is only a two TD difference against the number 16 rated team and a turnover here or there could make all the difference. This has been a very successful season and can only hope we can see the same by the end of March for our Hockey team.

Same bracket area as Delaware Valley, Brockport, and Springfield, so it looks like travel was definitely taken into account. The good news is, compared to many other teams, we have the chance to play another game. We were favored against TCNJ in 2007 and lost; I'd say this one is definitely winnable, even though we're away. Hopefully they do well, win or lose.

Ch.13 last night reported tat Andrew Franks would be trying out with the NY Giants, who apparently have struggled in their kicking game (this in addition to offense, defense and disciplinary issues)😜

#Giants apparently sticking with Aldrick Rosas as their kicker despite working out a pair of free agents yesterday: Andrew Franks and Jason Myers.<br>Rosas has missed at least one field goal in each of the past four games and is 10-of-15 on the season.— Art Stapleton (@art_stapleton)

What an emotional roller coaster.

Kickers can hang around the periphery of the league for a long time. Not likely that they lose their leg. I am still waiting for Lou Groza to try out for the Giants.;)

Re: RPI Hockey 2017 - 2018: A Wealth of Notions

For the first time in this long series, RPI has won five games in a row.

I remember vividly when we went zero for the season a couple times in a row. The results from our football team over the past 20+ years have just been incredible considering where we were at with the program in the early to mid 1960's. The coaches and the boys deserve an incredible amount of applause. Now let us see the same turnaround in hockey!!!

Lou “the toe” Groza. Wow! That goes back a lotta years. Did you know he played as a lineman also? Jerry Kramer also played as a guard and was the kicker for Green Bay for a while.

I remember when Lou Groza (and the Carpenter Brothers) would stop by our suburban youth league practices and give pointers. That was in the late 50's or early 60's. Things sure have changed. Wasn't smart enough to get autographs

Re: RPI Hockey 2017 - 2018: A Wealth of Notions

It all changed with Pete Gogolak.

Pete Gogolak played for the Giants and Charley Gogolak played for the Redskins and Patriots. Pete went to Cornell and Charley to Princeton.

A check of the internet revealed the Gogolaks came to the US in '56 after the Hungarian Uprising. Their father was a physician and they settled in Ogdensburg, NY. (Worthwhile addition to original post...)

You are correct about the colleges. Pete initially played for the Bills before the Giants while Charley played for Washington & the Boston/ NE Patriots.

Ogdensburg, NY. Now THAT is Upstate NY. Even FlagDude can’t dispute that one. :)
