Re: RPI Hockey 2016 - 2017: Here we go again! I hope it's a fun ride.

The last time I remember it happening at RPI was in the mid 90's, a player named Kyle Ferguson. I believe he was a transfer who left his old school mid season, and since he had to sit out a year, joined RPI mid-season. Ralph and some of the other old guys :D on here will probably correct me though.

I recall that he was at MTU and was quite big. I think that you are correct that he started at RPI in midyear. I also think that he didn't do much at RPI. (That could be looked up.)

Nothing like losing a game you never trailed. Again. For the third time this season.

From Ed Weaver's story in the Record:

“I liked us tonight,” RPI coach Seth Appert said. “And I think we’re starting to see little glimpses in this new season of ours since the holiday break, a team that’s starting to believe in each other and in themselves, how we need to play this year in order for us to have an opportunity to get to Lake Placid for the ECAC championship.” Appert thought his team played well the final 20 minutes as the Engineers outshot Union 10-4 in the third. “That’s probably as good as we’ve been in the third period of a big game against a really good team,” Appert said. “The scoring chances were probably six- or seven to two, against a Top 10 team in the country in a big game.”

H is right, we have played much better the last three games, but have only one win to show for it.
No matter how good we play, if we can't convert our scoring opportunities, we aren't going to win many games.

I looked it up. He had no goals, 5 assists and 28 PIM in 20 games back in the 1995-96 season (his only season).

What? You're kidding! I wonder when that decision was made

Over time with friends and a bong, I'm sure.

It was probably a detraction from people's obsession over the backup goaltender, when we didn't hear about any of this after Kasdorf's injury a few years ago.

This season just keeps getting curiouser and curiouser.
I realize that the schools second semester has just gotten underway, but how does a student enter in the middle of a school year?
If Hackett didn't do anything illegal, what could he have done to be replaced in the middle of the season?
What is going on at RPI????????
The list is long of the possible things Hackett could have done....could have been hockey related, could have had nothing to do with hockey. Anyone's guess....no sense lingering over it, as we have no info. Suffice it say he got sideways with the coaches and/or the admin and appears to have been shown the door. Every student athlete is expected to conduct themselves in responsible fashion. If they don't, they pay the consequences

The New keeper enrolled in time for the spring semester, so his eligibility is a non issue. He burns a full year however.

SA did say that it was not criminal.

Re: RPI Hockey 2016 - 2017: Here we go again! I hope it's a fun ride.

Nine games remain in the regular season, two (at least) after that.

No win or tie in the regular season, or seven losses in the regular season and not making it to LP, puts us at 30 losses on the season, which has never happened to us (closest we came was 27 in 08-09).
We would need six wins to get to double digit wins on the season; the last time that wasn't accomplished was 81-82 (although we did have a few 10 win seasons).

as long as we win the last game of the season, I'll be happy with that....

http://www.uscho.com/2017/01/24/rensselaer-adds-usphl-goaltender-kyle-st-denis-to-active-roster/

Rensselaer announced Tuesday the addition of goaltender Kyle St. Denis to the program’s freshman class.

“We are excited to have Kyle join our hockey program,” said Engineers coach Seth Appert in a statement. “His work ethic, competitiveness and character make him a good fit for our program’s values.”

A native of Katonah, N.Y., St. Denis split the first half of the season between the Syracuse Stars and Springfield Pics of the United States Premier Hockey League. In 24 games this season, he was 5-7-1 with a 3.29 GAA and a .917 save percentage. He attended Hotchkiss School in Connecticut from 2013 to 2016.

St. Denis’ addition comes on the heels of RPI suspending sophomore goalie Cam Hackett for “failing to uphold team standards” back on Jan. 13.

St. Denis joins nine others in this year's freshman class, which includes three defenseman and five forwards.
Huh?

Of course I would rather the team have been #1.

I wonder if this will have an effect on future Mayor's Cup games.
