Re: RPI Hockey 2015 - 2016:: Six Flags Over the HFH

Since this is also the RPI @ Princeton thread, anyone coming down here tomorrow? Weather will be perfect. Cool (mid 30's) and absolutely clear. Traffic will be miserable, after all this is NJ and the most congested state in the country. Hope our boys are not bus tired after this long trip. Princeton has a habit of coming out very fast at home and jumping on teams quickly with a ferocious forecheck. Our defense will have to make quick decisions and get the puck up ice even quicker than usual early.

I will be coming over (given my starting point, it wouldn't be entirely appropriate to say that I'm coming down). One of the joys of retirement is that I don't have to worry about getting back to work on Friday after a Thursday night game.

I'll be looking for Dr. D and Jenny. Probably won't be too hard for us to find each other.

We are always in the same place. Just look for an elegant attired woman and the bum that tags along with her.

Coach SA summarized this one perfectly. i did not keep score but I am certain we outshot Princeton in each period and were totally dominant in OT. This is one we could have won. But we should be quite OK with a tie. Princeton is a very different team than their record seems to indicate. They are an extremely physical, in your face team. And they are big. We really took some hits last night. We had several very good chances but Phinney was sharp early when he needed to be. One of our better offensive games but we just never got that one extra goal.
I am almost never a fan of the officials, but last night the Linesmen were horrible at calling offsides missing at least several. Any team coming in here to play princeton better not take them for granted or they will get spanked.

Was hoping he would’ve at least been asked why Alex & Kenny were scratches. He might not tell the real truth but you probably could at least figure out if it were injury/sickness or something else by how he answered. Or, was it touched on in a pregame radio interview?

It was touched on in the pre-game interview. Sort of wish WRPI had a publicly-accessing archive for those sorts of things, but I can certainly understand them not doing that sort of thing. Basically a rough go at it on Sunday.

So, I'm guessing an injury to both? Is that what you’re saying?

Tossing around the idea of driving back to Princeton to see them play Union tonight. You need size to handle Princeton, that was made obvious to us last night. We were so much faster than they were and kept the puck in their end for minutes at a time to the point that they could not make effective line changes. That pressure gave rise to several great chances as they just could not move. Unfortunately most of those did not result in goals. I have no clue if Union is more of a speed team or a size team (I suspect size from looking at their roster). Could be a rel hard hitting banging game which I would think benefits Union which has been so much better on special teams. If this game ends up being one of those 30% of the game spent on the power play, Princeton will not be able to handle them. We do not have tickets for tonight but were told last night that numerous were available.

Not sure if this will post-connection is spotty tonight. But the first two periods here at Princeton has been a madhouse. Union has put 3 in but Princeton has put 3 in also. Ferocious hitting. After yesterday and the first 2 periods today, I find it a bit tough to understand how Princeton has not had a better record this year. We are not staying for the end as we have a bit of a drive and this one does not hold the interest that yesterday did.

Like last night, the game ended up as a tie. This time 4-4.

BTW, the RPI women, like the men's team earlier this season, played a scoreless tie tonight. This was against QU, the #4 ranked team in the country. They were outshot 40-15 but outstanding goaltending kept the game scoreless.

Both teams need more Swedes. :)

Yes.

Now we get a week at home, practice and games at HFH. Let's be attentive to process and the results will follow.

As I had mentioned earlier in the season, Princeton is no easy game especially at home. They are big and they use that size. Not as fast as many of their recent teams but Phinney can stop a lot of shots and keeps the games close. i believe they have lost a fair number of 1 or 2 goal games but you know you have been in a tussle when you leave Baker rink. Although I wanted a better result for us Thursday and actually though we may have deserved it, getting out of there with a tie(especially one in which we scored twice to get even) has to feel just about as good as a win.
