RPI Hockey 2015 - 2016:: Six Flags Over the HFH

Re: RPI Hockey 2015 - 2016:: Six Flags Over the HFH

In our final twelve games, KRACH would have us go basically right at .500. Five of the twelve are against teams rated higher than us (2xQu, Ya, Ha, Cr), and another four are against teams that are at least above average (Un, SL, Ck, Da). Somewhat paradoxically, we have our worst record so far against the below average teams (0-0-3), and winning records against the other two sets (2-1-1 against top teams, 3-1-1 against middle teams). Before the break I said that 10-7 probably wasn't going to be good enough to earn an at-large bid, and we've gone 2-1-2 since then. Even if those two ties are would-be losses (they're not, they should have been wins), as DeepRed said, 10-5-2 in that stretch probably still won't be enough. It looks more and more like we'll have to make (and likely do well) in Lake Placid to earn an at-large bid, lest we miss out even with a 20-win regular season.

All of that said, just win, baby.

Re: RPI Hockey 2015 - 2016:: Six Flags Over the HFH

For as change, I actually understood what Lugnut just posted. Nut all of that will be even harder to accomplish with the injury bug that has hit us again this year. Riley, Evan and Parker all out may just be a bit much to overcome with a team that is not a scoring machine. Frustrating to be sure that we can just flirt with the edge of the tournament. The two Alaska games that were winnable (leading in the third), the Clarkson tie (leading late in the third) and the Colgate tie (leading late in the third) will probably end up being the difference. Then of course, we might just run the table and everything becomes a moot point. It all starts thursday against a team that no one seems to have solved and which seems to play all 60 minutes all the time having come back to win even when they fall behind.

Playing with CHN's what-if machine, we sit at #11 in the Pairwise if those four games are wins.

Re: RPI Hockey 2015 - 2016:: Six Flags Over the HFH

Turk: I saw them both play twice so far. The older boy we stood next to and you are right, he is big (and i think bigger than the listed size). The younger boy shows some flashes of having some real skills. If you look back over the years, Delbarton just keeps restocking and some years they will have 4 or 5 that end up playing division I hockey. The teams with DM and Phinney and Baiocco were just loaded. Princeton has 2 in their line up and we have one and Yale has a couple and Miami has one. When you have one high school team putting that many into NCAA Division I, you really should be scouting them and looking for more. Jen and i have not been to as many games the past 2 years as we used to but it certainly seems that there are a lot more representatives of schools other than the Ivies showing up. Hopefully we will start to get back and attend more games later this year and more likely next year.
Funny, I picked up the latest edition of NY Hockey Journal today & who’s on the cover?.......Anthony Farinacci.

Saw that last week viz. Father was Brian (or was it Joey?) ex-Rangers both. Born & raised in “Hell’s Kitchen”. My Dad was born & raised there also only it was during the Depression when as he used say, “it really was Hell’s Kitchen”. I believe it’s now called Clinton Corners. Yuppies started buying it up in the early 90’s & it’s pretty nice now.....I think.

Hall of Famer Joe is the Dad.

Of course, we could also what-if in the other direction, if some of our wins were losses or ties. E.g., Brown, Cornell.

Try it throwing in this last game with Colgate where we also gave up a late goal to settle for a tie. of course we did win or tie some games late ourselves but it just shows how what seems to be unimportant late goals against us can really hurt.

Ralph: i tried to limit it to only those games where we had a lead and gave up late goals to either tie or lose. of course we did win a couple late but more went the other way.

I have watched what Delbarton has had for the past several years. A team could do very well to recruit several from there almost every year. About 30 years ago, the same could be said for our local public school here in Brick but that has not been the case for some time now.

I don't think that any current RPI players or known recruits will be listed, but

Re: RPI Hockey 2015 - 2016:: Six Flags Over the HFH

Not necessarily, if you include the league's tournament in March. ;)

Which has nothing to do with the Pairwise, which was mentioned. I'd beseech you to pay attention, but we all know that's a waste of time and breath.

Re: RPI Hockey 2015 - 2016:: Six Flags Over the HFH

Winning out in the regular season gets us to #6 in PWR. That would earn us at least a bye and hopefully even if things went completely sideways in the ECAC quarters, those losses would be to at least a middling team (woo conference strength). We'd end up with a .697 Win%, which would almost definitely have us in, barring some crazy stuff outside.

That's assuming everything else "goes right", and unless the planets are aligning :p, it probably won't. The biggest concern is our presently 7-6 NC record, which is close to where we were in 2012-13, which had a similar (albeit not exact, as we did have a few more losses in the beginning of the season) regular season outcome, as well as a similar "what if" outcome in the playoffs, but had us starting the "My team got screwed!" thread. ;) I'm sure we'll know more in the weeks to come, but RVD has a point: Let's take care of what we can actually control, which is winning in our upcoming games.

It was a clean sweep on the GotW awards with Lovisa Se;lander winning on the women's side.

Edit: Tommy Grant was nominated for RotW. http://ecachockey.com/men/2015-16/Weekly_Awards/20161901_Men_Weekly_Awards
