Great piece from WaP, kind of reflects my sentiments almost exactly.

I was worried reading that, thinking that Tom was going to say that he was hanging up the skates. Good to hear that it was mostly just a call for reason.

I don't really remember the board being this bad back in 2011-12 when we were 3-16-1 (1-7-1 ECAC) at this point in the season. I realize 6-15-1 (4-5 ECAC) isn't all that much better, but you'd think the wins against Union would have our spirits running a little higher. I don't know what I'm really trying to say here, so I'll stop saying it. All I know is that the attitude of some posters wears a little thin after a while.

I agree that the WaP commentary was a good piece. He's right about some of the people who can't help but rant and rave over every real or perceived fault or failure of the program. It has indeed been a tough decade, but there have been some bright spots too, and in the end most of us would prefer to dwell on those rather than continually denegrate everyone and everything related to RPI Hockey.

The suspensions are done. We can hope that Miller and Nanne are back on the ice this weekend and there are 13 inportant ECAC games still to be played. If this team remains healthy and Kasdorf plays well down the stretch, I am confident that they will have home ice in the first round of the playoffs. The guys who have gotten extra ice time during this horrible stretch of injuries and suspensions can only be better because of that. This roster should be deep, rested, battle-tested and anxious to get some wins down the stretch. I am looking forward to the rest of the season.
LGR!

Just one or two, really.

I believe this point in 12-13, that or thereabout, was when I started choosing the opposing goalie in PtC, and was quite glad that that backfired. It'd be nice if we can pull off something similar, but unlike 2012-13, I'm not sure we have the horses to do it.

Whomever said that Appert lost control of the team with the suspensions is an idiot. In fact, issuing suspensions to the entire captainship shows that he has control of the team, and actually earned back some respect in my book, as I've always thought he was soft on the captains.

Here's something that I'm sure most of the FIAR APPART people won't give you: Things I look for in a coach to be successful. Those are game-time leadership, consistency, and big-moment motivation. #3 has certainly been addressed with the improvement in Freakout record, as well as the Union wins that you cited, although some of me wonders how much Cavosie had a hand in that one. #1 is just evident to not be there, as the other bench seems to be able to constantly out-adjust our team, which is what leads to "dreaded second periods" or rough second games in a series. Consistency is one that you wouldn't think to put the onus on a coach, as it is the players that have to perform, and bad apples are going to happen. Sure, the coach speaks of process and fundamentals, and that's all well and good in theory, but when you look to how it is being executed, and the same mistakes seem to happen year after year, you have to think that the players are not being properly motivated by their coaching staff in how to be steady each night. It is for these three things that I am disappointed in the coach's product.

Am I willing to change my mind, even at risk of being called a "teenage girl" by some of the salivaters? Certainly. However, there's only one way to get me to change my mind, and that's to show some results.

With everything that's gone awry this season (injuries at the top of the list), and a record no one's happy with, we have 13 league games left and we're only one game under .500 where it counts. Let 's get some guys back, play our game, make some noise and show the league something in these last 7 weeks. LGR!

Re: RPI Hockey 2014-2015: Dedicated to Rich Curadi

Surely there is room for honest constructive criticism. The fact remains that despite having a highly talented gang of student-athletes season after season, our record does not reflect the sum of our parts. What is especially heartbreaking is those games where our guys don't seem to be motivated. Look, I don't have the answers and I'm certainly not calling for anyone to be "fiar'd", but something, somehow, somewhere needs to change. But hey, enough of my yapping.

Re: RPI Hockey 2014-2015: Dedicated to Rich Curadi

Jen and I have been cat rescuers for 40 years. We have lost them from age 8 weeks up through 20+. Each one is special in their own way and each and every time, it just hurts so bad. it is the only time they do hurt you, when they leave you. We are trying to nurse 3 very ill guys now and pretty sure we will not have them for much longer. But we will do whatever it takes to make sure they do not suffer and that they pass with dignity and in the arms of the people who love them. A big problem is that cats are so stoic. When dogs suffer an illness, they let you know. Cats just never allow you to know when they are sick until it is very far advanced. They often seem to be fine and then within days or sometimes hours, they are gone or beyond hope. They are indeed our family(even more so after our loss of last year).
Agree with you on all counts, Dr.D. We should talk cats if we connect on the weekend. :)

And the fact that at a typical game in Troy, that the "Clarkson still" cheer is the most creative thing done by thehome team on or off the ice is a telling commentary on the state of Tute hockey.

If you have something more creative, by all means go for it.

Gotta break out "If you can't score a goal" every now and again. ;)

Never mind that he's highly respected in the NCAA Hockey community, has experience as a deputy AD at an armed forces academy, and oversaw massive improvements to RPI Athletics facilities.

Sorry for interrupting, but facility improvements and SA were already in place prior to the arrival of the Colonel. Also, SA is Shirley's guy.....pure and simple. All contract extensions are her responsibility. It just seems that things haven't been right athletically since the millionaire came to town.

Heck, they were being built when I was there. It's not just the athletic department that has gone downhill since Clinton's Head of the NRC showed up. Tuition has tripled, student experience destroyed, and the Faculty Senate disbanded along with deans "retired" for failing a no confidence vote.

When was John Beresford Tipton, Jr. in Troy? ;)
