Re: RPI Hockey 2014-2015: Dedicated to Rich Curadi

Oh, for crying out loud. I can't take this anymore.

Beman, your "kinda reliable" scuttlebutt is just plain wrong. Nobody was drinking after the game in Boston. They got on the bus right at the rink and left for home just as they always do. I can say this with certainty because I was there. I talked to them, watched them get on the bus and waved goodbye.

And hawthr, I can pretty much guarantee you the person on reddit who "knows someone close to the team" is wrong too. I can't offer you proof on that one, but I know these boys and their families and I am confident that they did not and would not show up for a practice hung over or miss a practice for that reason. Sheesh. Maybe a few years ago, without naming any names, but not these boys on this team.

I'm not saying they didn't do anything wrong. Clearly they did in Coach Appert's eyes. I'm sure they were guilty of bad judgment in some respect. But they aren't idiots – it wasn’t anything that would so obviously hurt their teammates and themselves as is being suggested here.

I'm not trying to short-circuit your conversation - feel free to go on speculating. I just happened to do a rare check here tonight and couldn't resist giving my two cents worth before fading back into the woodwork. :)

Welcome back CM!!! Love when you add some sanity to this menagerie. (or is is man-agerie in this case?) Missed you. Thanks for the added information which should quiet down all this speculation. Are you coming to Princeton next Saturday? Jenny and i would love to see you. Hope all is well-Doc and Jen

Re: RPI Hockey 2014-2015: Dedicated to Rich Curadi

Whether SA should be let go is a debatable point, but if what was written on Reddit is correct, he handled it correctly, and IMO it has no bearing on his job status. All four are over 21. They don't appear to have done anything illegal as far as we know. SA can't watch them 24 hours a day.

And there is a possibility that this action, deemed necessary by the coach, could actually work in the team's favor. it gave some much needed ice time to a group of boys these past two nights and they did not do all that poorly. We got to see how badly they want to play and what they can bring to the ice for the team. Miami is an NCAA tourney type team and we gave them 1 or 2 easy goals each night. We had some good chances and a couple of our lines had some shifts that gave them a lot of trouble. I look forward to the return to the ECAC schedule-we will learn very quickly against QU whether these suspensions had any desired effect. Down here at Princeton, what looks like a soft team on paper is most definitely not. Although at the bottom of the league right now and having won only 2 games, they have played a lot like we have which is just playing good enough to lose. They are a team without any draft choices(as far as i know) but considerable size and very good speed. As always they come out very fast at home and forecheck like crazy for the first 20 minutes(something that always gives us trouble).

Apologies if I missed it... is there any indication of how long the suspensions will last?

It's about gosh darn time we read your words again. The long and short is that they violated team rules, and based on last night's press conference, are effectively cut, as they, in Appert's words, "are not participating in team activities". Obviously Appert's discretion as to when they get reinstated. I hope it isn't educationally based, but enough with the spec.

Appert's the right person to ask on that. It's his call. In fact, he even gave the definition of "indefinite" at Friday's press conference.

Re: RPI Hockey 2014-2015: Dedicated to Rich Curadi

I don't know what the guys did, and I don't care. The coach made a decision and I respect that. If they are reinstated for this weekends games, I expect them to come out and try to make it up to their teammates.
It would be a very emotional game for the whole team.
That said, if we cannot put the puck in the net, and Kasdorf continues to let in soft goals, we will not win.My biggest concern is Kasdorf. We knew we were going to have trouble scoring, but we were counting on him to keep us in the games. Since he has come back from injury, he has let in at least one soft goal a game. It makes you wonder if he isn't still hurting.
It would really be nice to see the entire team healthy and in the lineup for the rest of the season. We looked pretty good at the beginning of the ECAC schedule, when we had all of our players on the ice.

With all due respects to RB:

Today is Sunday, January 4, 2015

It has been 40 days since RPI's last victory.

Re: RPI Hockey 2014-2015: Dedicated to Rich Curadi

The team is just saving it for ecac games. We will start scoring 4 goals per game starting Friday at piac

For once, i would really like you to be on the money. I also hope to see a lot of RPI offense the next night here in NJ. We need to kickstart this second half of the league season quickly. I have not written off the year yet and have a very personal reason for wanting a victory down here in NJ.

Thanks, Dr.D. Bob and I expect to be at Princeton - I'll look for you. All is well except for the recent loss of one of our cats, but life goes on.

Sorry to hear about your loss. Maybe it is an omen that a much bigger cat will suffer a loss. ;)

Re: RPI Hockey 2014-2015: Dedicated to Rich Curadi

Sorry to step in the RPI thread...
I watched the RPI games this week end and I'm wondering why he didn't play Diebold one of the 2 nights... If Kasdorf is not 100% in the game, that would be a good way to get him back to speed without risking more injuries.

Although it might make sense to do that, perhaps SA felt that Kasdorf needed to get into the swing of playing two games in a weekend. As to injury, we know that is just as likely to happen in practice as in a game. As a WAG, it is conceivable that Diebold was also going to be suspended but SA couldn't actually suspend him since Soffer is apparently injured and he didn't want to rely on Goodman.

It looks like I was wrong about Soffer.
